Can you believe it? A layout!

Yeah, it's been a really long time since I had any kind of inspiration to sit down and scrap. I finished my first layout in months today.

POTD - December 17 to 25

Oups! I fell behind a little with posting my POTDs. I have been good and taken photos like planned but with everything going on with Christmas it has just fallen down on my to do list. :) But here we go!

2008-12-17, Wednesday
I was working on wrapping our Christmas gifts and I really loved the colours of the ribbons all jumbled up on the table.
Photobucket

2008-12-18, Thursday
We were planning on what to serve a few days later when my dad, his wife, and my brother were invited to dinner. We had a bunch of cook books out and I was lazy that day and snapped a pic of them.
Photobucket

2008-12-19, Friday
This was the first day I cheated all month. I was so tired from a bad cold that day and just couldn't bring myself to do anything. So this photo was actually taken on Saturday. My mum and I made some Christmas sweets. This is a marzipan pig dipped in chocolate. My favourite thing to make around Christmas, lol.
Photobucket

2008-12-20, Saturday
Also from our treat session. We made ginger bread and it all went very well until I was to decorate them. I accidentally cut off too much of the bag and the icing just spilled out. So they didn't turn out as pretty as I would have wanted. They still tasted good though.

We had my dad, his wife, and my brother over for dinner (such a yummy one too) and here's the table all set and ready for some action. I will, by the way, make a separate post about some festive table scapes on Sunday.

Christmas Eve! This is my sister and her new fiancé. They got engaged on Christmas Eve. Naturally they had to be the focus of my photographic attention. I just love how beautiful they are together.

After dragging my feet all day I took out the camera very late and took some pictures of the tree when the room was all dark. I love the twinkle the lights get in the dark.

Whew, that was it. Just a couple more days to go this month!

1 year and 150 posts later

A year ago today I sat by my computer and thought it would be a neat idea to start a small blogg where I could record all my creative endeavours and also save some links to other creative people around the world. I had no illusions that I would be able to keep it up as I am notorious for starting things and then getting bored with them.

But it's been a year, and here I am, making my 150th post on this blog. Wow! Who would have thought?

So this is cause for celebration, no? I'm thinking y'all want to join in with me, yes? What better way to do that than with a freebie? Yup, it's been a while so it is definitely high time.

I created a word art brush a long time ago that I wanted to share here. Unfortunately I never got a reply from the creator of the font I used if it was ok or not and so I never put it up. But now I have recreated it with a different font.

I love this quote by Maya Angelou. I think it is something we should all aspire to live by.

I have included an ABR file as well as a PNG so you can pick an choose which one you like to work with best. Click here for the link.

As always I implore you to follow the guidelines in the TOU, to leave a little hello when you download, and to link me up if you use it. I love to see your work!

Christmas card 2008

So I completely dropped the ball on our Christmas cards this year. I am known for making beautiful paper creations, each one a different design from the other. It takes a really long time and a lot of energy. The recipients have come to expect this from me and one year, when I was ill before Christmas, I didn't send any cards at all and promptly got several phone calls telling me to step it up the coming year.

This year I have been so busy with work, and being ill, that I have simply not had the energy to put so much work into it. I ended up doing a digi card and printed it the other day. They went out today and so even though I know some people will see the card here before actually recieving it I will still post it. I am not loving it but I am not hating it either and I figure it's better than noting at all (given the phone calls described above).

POTD - December 12-14 and 3 Advent

I've been a little lax with posting the last few days. So here they are

2008-12-12, Friday
There are some quite different and fun Christmas decorations in town. I liked the glowing presents against the sky.
Photobucket

2008-12-13, Saturday
I made cinnamon cupcakes yesterday morning after watching Lucia on telly. My mother in law called right when I was going to take the photo so the cream melted a little and so it's not as great looking as it was intended to be. I did eat the cupcake but I scraped off the cream first.

We have a strand of lights where each individual light is covered my delicate white feathers. They glow beautifully and I did some experiments photographing it. This one isn't too out there but I like the white feather against the black.

I love snowflakes (so much so that I have one tattooed on my back) and they are the staple of my Christmas decorations. This glass one and a whole bunch of its friends hangs in the tree.

POTD - December 11

2008-12-11, Thursday
I started working on this card three weeks ago. I didn't get round to finishing it. I picked it up today and looked at it. Decided I hate it and will let it stay unfinished. Still, I took a photo of it because I thought it would be interesting to have photos of not only success but also reality, lol.
Photobucket

Our Italy album from Shutterfly arrived yesterday. Overall I am very happy with the result. Some of the B/W photos are too dark and some of the colour ones are too saturated. But otherwise it is perfect. I am so happy I stuck with the uniform design because it really brings the book together.

I brought the book to work to show some coworkers and I got so much positive feedback, a few questions if I could make one for them with their photos. One person told me to quit my day job, lol.

POTD - December 2 and 3

OK, so time seems to slip away from me much faster than I would have wanted. So all I have to offer today is POTD photos.

2008-12-02, Tuesday
I had two layouts featured in the Dec/Jan issue of Digital Scrapbook Magazine. Yay! It arrived at my doorstep, thanks to Jeanne, yesterday and of course I had to take a few photos, lol (btw, I'll make a separate post about that over the weekend). If it's too small to see, take my word for it, that's my name in red under the title of the layout. :D

Today has been very stressful and I didn't get a chance to break out the camera until tonight. Not the most inventive shot, but there you go.
Photobucket

In other news I've had my papers and stuff out for three weeks now and still only managed to produce three Christmas cards. Isn't that pathetic? It's starting to become somewhat of an issue since the ones that are going out of the country have to be sent like ... now and the rest by the end of next week. Oh if there were more hours in the day!

December Photo of the Day starts today!

Ok, so I cheated and started yesterday, hehe. I had to have a photo for 1 Advent. I think I will do two photos on Sundays to get a special Advent mini album. Could be fun I think.

So here we go!

Italy album ordered

I ordered our Italy book from Shutterfly today. It is scheduled to arrive somewhere between Dec 10 and Dec 22. I just hope it will get here as soon as it possibly can! I cannot wait to see it!

December Photo of the Day

I did the "Photo of the Day" challenge in May where I took (at least) one photo every day and posted it on my blog. I really liked doing that; it challenged me to look at things differently and work to improve my photography. I am thinking that maybe I should do it again throughout December. The holiday month is always full of activity and photo ops so it should be the ideal month to break out the camera every day.

Anyone want to join me? For those doing Ali Edwards' "Daily December" this would would be a great help I think.

Below zero + snow = freebie

I came home from a work related trip late last night to find that winter had arrived in our part of the country. Most often our winters consist of heavy winds and rain (oh glorious joy - not) but yesterday everything was white and pretty. Just before I went to bed it started to snow again and it made me so happy (very stressed, but happy) that we've only got a little more than a month to go until Christmas is here.

So what better way to celebrate the beauty of snow than putting up a freebie paper kit for grabs? Yeah! I have created a little paper kit inspired by the traditional Christmas colours but presented in a more modern way. Each paper comes in two versions; one clean and one stone washed (remember those jeans we all wore in the 80s?).

Photobucket

If you like it you are very welcome to download it by clicking on this link.

I very much appreciate your comments so please leave on here or at 4shared if you download. Also please do make sure to read the TOU and follow them. I would love to see your work with my products so don't hesitate to link me up if you use them!

I'm off on a weekend of creativity with two different gettogethers in two days. I will certainly make sure to have lots of fun! Have a great weekend everyone and I hope to see you soon again.

Party decor update

So I came back to life after getting hit by that cold at the beginning of the week and was able to get everything together for the party I was asked to decorate on Saturday. There was some last minute shopping panic when I couldn't find the perfect paper napkins but it worked out ok in the end. Somehow it usually does. The colour theme was brown and lime green. I decided to keep the green a little subdued which I think was a good decision. The finished deal looked very sophisticated and classy.

I used brown table cloths that I aldready had and bought a green silk fabric that had a beautiful brown velvet pattern to create a runner across the length of the table.
Photobucket

I found brown paper napkins that had a gold/copperish flourish pattern that went well with the rest of the stuff. I made little cards that said welcome that was placed on each plate. The cards were made up of brown cardstock cut with a scalloped scissor and strips of textured green paper. The word was hand written and cut out in the same green paper. The hosting couple had their initials in brown on their cards.
Photobucket

I covered the square vases, also in my stash, with strips of green scrapbook paper and stretch lace and found the cute little green buds in a local flower shop. I think they went perfectly with the theme.
Photobucket

The green candles have a string of brown suede tied around them to match the softness of the velvet on the runner and I used clear votive holders (again, in my stash - I bought 50 of them for our wedding 7 years ago and they have come in handy so many times since then) to enhance the warm feeling of candle light. To pick up on the glare of the candles I used copper glass beads and green and brown sequins scattered on the silk runner.
Photobucket

Photobucket

I am so pleased with the outcome and it all worked so well with the room the party was held in as it is decorated in brown, tan, and green. A little of the fabulous wallpaper can be seen above in the top photo. The hosts were extremely happy with my work and I was asked to do another party in the near future by some guests. Fun, fun, fun!

Party decor + a freebie first

I know I have been scarce this past week but I've been hit with illnesses which have left me feeling all but interested in spending time on the Internet. First I had three days of killer migraines and now today I woke up with a bad cold that has a tight grip on the whole swallowing/breathing/hearing apparatus. Nice.

I have been asked to do the decor for a 35th birthday party on Saturday so I'm doing some research on that at the moment. Colour theme? Brown and lime green. Cool combo which I think will look smashing with stark white china. I will do a follow up post with how it turned out in a week or so.

But why I'm really here is because I have created my first ever freebie paper kit and I'm offering it up to you! It's a little out of my usual style but I like the warmth and cozyness of burgundy and gold together so that is the colours for this little mini kit. I hope you like it!

You can find the download link by clicking here!

Please, if you download, leave me a message, and please do remember to follow my Terms of Use. If you use any of my products I would love it if you linked me up! Thanks!

Now I'm off to cure the cold. See you all soon again!

On our way out to a photo shoot this weekend I snapped this one real quick and it turned out to be my favourite of them all. Funny how it can be sometimes.

Pink on pink party decor

Using one colour in different shades can create a lavish decor for any celebration. For this party I used pink on pink.

A light pink shiny fabric covers a white table cloth and the hot pink fabric is placed as a runner. Hot pink satin ribbons are hung from the chandelier.
Photobucket

Photobucket

Pink flower tea light holders and floating pink rose candles are nestled in the runner that is adorned with white and pink sticker sequins. Note: please make sure the fabric is not covering the candles in any way!

Photobucket

A simple low centre piece with roses in a vase wrapped with a strand of beads makes it easy for the guests to see eachother. A sequined flower napkin ring holds the simply rolled napkins that are placed on the plates. A pink ribbon is tied around the stems of the glasses.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Once the day turns into night and the candles are lit the pink fabric gives a warm touch to the light.
Photobucket

It's FREEBIE time! Woohoo!

Ok, so this place has been too quiet too long. It's time for some freebies again. Remember I promised a wordart brush freebie a while ago? Well, I still haven't heard back from the font creator and so I don't want to go out on a limb just yet. What's the ettiquette on this anyway? If they neglect to reply, do you just go ahead full steam or do you refrain from dishing out the goodies? I don't know but I figure better to be safe than sorry. *shrug*

Buuuut, the other week I made a couple of layouts and instead of just posting them here I thought why not post them and make a template to share? So today you will get not only one but two templates! Yay!

Remember the layout I posted in this post? The template looks like this:
Photobucket

If you like it, you can download the template by clicking this link!

I also made this layout when I was going through a rough patch of craving sweets (that's what I do, when I want to eat bad stuff, I scrap about them)

Cheers everyone!
