Type+Writer 2 class

During the last two weeks I have been taking the Type+Writer 2 class at jessicasprague.com where Jessica has teamed up with Liv Esteban to create a banging follow up to their fist class that they presented for the first time last year. It has been two weeks of soul searching and introspective digging as well as some great design moments, and chuckles at myself.

I created five layouts for class.

Adventure
The assignment was to write about a trip we had taken in the past and to focus on sensory memories. I wrote about our first day in NYC in 2003.

Change
Totally being silly with this one; we were supposed to use photos of ourselves as teenagers and now and then write about differences and likenesses but as I don't have a scanner I had to find a different approach.

One Week
The assignment was to take photos and write short paragraphs about each day of the first week and then to use all of them in one layout. It's been a while since I took a photo every day of a week but I quite like the outcome.

Forever Love
The assignment was to write about a best friend. Well, my best friend in the world is my husband so the writing and the layout had to be about him.

Bulletin board
This last assignment was to write poetry and topic was something we have learned about life. For me it was easy to find that I wanted to write about the biggest lesson I have learned; about accepting that life doesn't always turn out as planned and moving on.

It's been an intense two weeks but it has given me so much to think about and so many new writing techniques. I also really dig the design work that came out of the class. If you have the chance to take this class in the future then do! You won't be sorry.

  1. You know I am one of your biggest fans, but you totally knocked a homerun with these layouts! Beautiful. I got side tracked about 3 days into the class and although I've kept up with the freewrites and other smaller assignments, I don't have my layouts done. I look forward to doing them -- especially after seeing yours.

  2. Hi Linda!

I didn't realize that those were YOUR layouts in the TW2 gallery! And I was like, "ohhh ... this girl is talented ..." and commented on so many of these. I remember them for all the signatures you touched them with!

Yes, I totally agree that she has a lot of cool techniques and I have so much to learn! I love your crisp designs and hope that your talent rubs off on me thru your blog & J*S.
