A summery layout

I really liked the summery feel of the 4EVER kit I created for the bloghop and thought it would go very well with my "feet on the beach" photo from a few weeks back. So I quickly threw together a layout.

Supplies: It's a Start Templates Set 5, 4EVER Mini Kit, Tricolor Elements Pack all by In the Making Design.

This week's photo has got to be of our new car. After all, it's the biggest thing that happened in our lives this week. You can read my New52 post for this week to get the full story.

All new - hot wheels and saturated fat

I said last week that this one would be super shallow, didn't I? Hm, well, it does include shopping. And with shopping I do mean shopping. Like, big shopping. Like a whole car - not that I have ever heard of anyone buying half a car mind you.

We've been thinking for a while of getting a new car. The one we had, A Ford Focus C-Max, was completely fine but we were thinking of resale value and thought it was about time before it had too many miles on it to get any money worth talking about for it.

The husband has spend infinite amounts of time scouring the interwebs for suitable hot wheels for us - I almost started to believe it was a new hobby of his - and happened to find an Opel Antara in a town not too far from us. We went to test it last week and went home to have a serious think. The thinking was probably most needed on my part but we decided the next day and then went back to complete the purchase and pick it up on Tuesday.

It's shiny, it's new, it's very cool, and we are very happy. Also, I almost require a step ladder to enter it, it's so high. I'm totally not used to that, LOL!

In other news, this weekend was my cooking night of the month. With everything that has been going on in the last few weeks, we had totally forgotten about it and thus I had made no plans what so ever. So while grocery shopping for our Midsummer's Eve celebration we had to make some swift decisions about what to cook. I decided to cheat a little and skip both starter and dessert and simply concentrate on the main course. We settled on fillet of beef (beef tenderloin), potatos au gratin, and sauce bearnaise. It made me nervous just thinking about it. Once last night came around the husband graciously offered to hold my hand in making the sauce and walk me through the process step by step.

It all turned out quite well. I aimed at getting the meat medium rare but didn't quite get it right and they turned out medium. But overall I am pleased. I'm not usually big on this type of food, it's too fatty for me, but I know the husband likes it.

And yes, I know the sauce is a bit darker than it's supposed to be, but we didn't have any red wine vinegar so I had to use Balsamico. But let me tell you that it tasted just right.

A big thank you

I just want to say

THANK YOU

to each and every one who has visited, commented, and downloaded on this blog over the course of this bloghop weekend. You make creating fabulous.

Celebrating the red, white, and blue

I really want to share with you twp projects that the fabulous and amazing CT member Emily Cheney has made with products by In the Making.

She used papers and elements from the Tricolor Kit and I simply adore the outcome.
This is square format invite, which just happens to be my favourite kind. I wouldn't mind one bit to be invited to this party! :)

She also created an layout adorable layout about her boys. Too cute!

Emily also used my It's a Start Templates for both her invite and her layout.

The Tricolor Paper Pack and Elements Pack was released last year but you can still pick it up in my shop at JessicaSprague.com. If you get them today you get 35% off! That's a deal too good to pass up, no?

One huge mutha of a new thing

Disclaimer: This post is very personal and serious. If you are not into that and purely came here for digi scrap or photography (thank you for that by the way), then please stop reading here and come back tomorrow.

I'm not quite sure how to write about this one. Part of me really don't want to because it's really huge for me, and very private, and there is so much riding on it that I kind of feel like I need to keep it to  myself for a while. On the other hand, I really want it documented just because it is exactly what this whole project is about; trying something new and hopefully becoming a better person in the process.

Now, for most of my life I have dealt with having major performance anxiety. There is something inside of me, a negative and demanding monster, that takes over and lures me into thinking that everything I do needs to be "perfect". It tells me that failure is the worst thing that could ever happen, and that unless I give it my all (an a little more) I will surely fail.

After so many years with this, and having inevitably failed at more than one thing in my life, this monster has made me think of myself as a person of lesser value - like I'm not good enough no matter what I'm doing -  and this in turn makes me try even harder to be "perfect" so that others won't notice what a crappy person I really am and now I'm kind of stuck in Catch 22.

Crazy? Yeah, she's real gone!

So, of course, this isn't a good way to live. It's certainly not a good way to treat myself. So I decided to do something about it and right now I feel like it doesn't matter if I don't do one single other new thing this year as long as I can pull this thing off. So this week was my kick off to treat myself better. Let's keep it at that for now.

So there you have it. The raw, the ugly, the truth. Next week will be super shallow, I promise! :)

A little princess

After a super busy week we got to relax on Sunday evening celebrating the 1st birthday of our good friends' little girl. What a sweetheart she is. Fun and lively, and so clever. She was quite put off by the sight of the husband at first, but after opening gifts and playing on the floor for a while she warmed up and was all smiles. Once cake was served she was quite the little flirt. The funny thing was, as soon as I picked the camera up she stopped dead in her tracks and put on her posing face. And what a posing face it is. What a little beauty! I am so in love with her eyes and her kissable cheeks.

New in store - Valpolicella

A while back my friend Luci mentioned that she would love to see a kit with plums and greens and with a wine theme that would fit for documenting a wedding. I was never one to back down from a challenge but this one had me stoked. After working on it for a weeks, and tweaking the colour scheme I ended up with a set of colours that I really love. Working on this kit had me a bit manic for a while and it kept me up for nights on end. The end product? Maybe not exactly what Luci had in mind, and certainly not wine themed, but I love it and am so excited to debut it today.

Again with the food ...

When I was a little girl I used to write in those "My friends books" (were they a typically Swedish phenomenon or did other countries have them as well? You would pass them around your group of friends and they would answer questions about themselves, their favourites, and their future) that I wanted to become a chef when I grew up. As luck would have it - or if one wants to argue that it was good planning on my part that is ok too - I managed to marry one instead. I feel I made a really smart deal, and I've talked about this before, since I get to eat a lot of good food without having to do all the work all the time. A girl's gotta do some smart moves in her life.
Throughout the years I've heard stories about what happens in a professional kitchen from the husband and have always thought it to be really intriguing. I never thought I would get to experience any of it but this week my workplace had some extra curricular activities in connection to a department meeting and one of them was to prepare that evening's dinner in a professional kitchen with the restaurant chefs.

Seeing as there were eight of us and three of them things were divided between us and all I got to do was an avocado paste. But it was still fun and it was great to come and tell the husband about it.

A snapshot of summer

This week has seen both stunning summer weather and frightful thunder storms. One of the high points of the week was sinking my feet into the soft sandy dunes and wading in the water sometime around sunset at one of the beaches just 20 minutes from us. The experience was topped off with a glass of sparkling wine just a few minutes later while looking out at the ocean. Such a lovely moment.

PS. Don't you just love the mosquito bites and tan lines on my feet? LOL!
