week in the life | the end

Here we are, it's a new week, and I can proudly say I finished another project. Granted, this one wasn't year long and really didn't demand any extraordinary action on my part (like learning how to cook or finding a new outlook on life like my New52 venture of 2011) other than taking photos all day every day and writing down some notes for remembering, but it was still a commitment that I made to not just give up and go on living my life.

The results won't go down to history as earth shattering or even mildly interesting. But it will be a nice thing to look back on; what did life as we know it look like in the spring of 2012?

Good things this week; there have been quite a few. My favourite day was Saturday, hands down. From sleeping in, to spending time with the people we love the most in the world (both in person and on the phone), to the weather picking up in the afternoon so much that we could put some homemade burgers on the grill, to having an inpromptu dance session in my BIL and SIL's kitchen. Other good things; good food, getting a lot accomplished at work, making myself go swimming on Monday.

Bad things this week; yeah I have to say that the worst thing is my usual one - busride to work. I detest it. Also, having to get up early, having put on half a pound since I weighed myself last, spending two hours pulling weeds in the garden on Sunday. But mostly, I am pretty happy with how the week turned out in the end.

What I do like is that I have taken more photos this week than I have before during a regular old week. I do think that maybe I have concentrated so hard on documenting everyday life that I have lost sight of taking photos from an artistic standpoint. That is something I usually try to do, especially with my photo class where they expect to see art every time. I won't be able to come to class with a shot where I placed the camera on the island, set the timer, and then turned my back to peel eggs ... LOL!

Sunday

I woke up early but was too tired to get up so I lounged in bed for an hour or so, catching up on Facebook and Twitter. After uploading photos and blogging we hit the garden to get some much needed gardening done. We pulled weeds, cut the grass, planted some stuff, brought the patio furniture out, and did some general cleaning. We also made a quick run to the nursery to pick up a plant for the large pot by the front door as the old ones had molded (what is that all about, anyway).  We weren't finished until late afternoon and then spent the rest of the day reading and watching telly on the couch, trying to get that last bit of rest before the weekend is over and it's time to do everything all over again.

Alrighty, the last shots of the week:

Ok, so what is left to do now is obviously to get all the photos edited. All 173 of them. And then I want to make a book out of it. I said at the beginning of the week that I would do a photos and words book - no scrapping - and I still think this is the route I will go. I certainly don't have the energy to spend three weeks working on this. So, I am giving myself the night off to just bask in the positive energy of having finished, and then pick back up next week and get it done. I will most definitely post the finished thing once it's done. Until then, have a great week! :)

week in the life | on the homestretch

I am feeling like the week has flown by. I thought it would be difficult and complicated to document the week in detail. It really hasn't. Thanks to iPhone it is surprisingly easy. I have also gotten into the habit of using the timer on the dSLR which has been great for getting the everyday stuff like cooking and folding laundry into the shots.

Friday was a crazy, crazy day at work with no less than six meetings. This meant I had very little time for documenting. But that has to be ok too. That is my reality. I just don't get to share it here.

Satuday was very different. It was a lovely day with tons of time to relax and love on our families. I always say weekends are too short. And they are, but a little piece of me also think that maybe they hadn't been as awesome had they been around all the time ... or at least that is what I'm telling myself! Ha!

Alright, shots!
(and no, I haven't had time to edit these either)

week in the life | keeping up

I have been surprised at how smoothly keeping up with WITL has gone so far. Working full time means that there aren't too many great opportunities for photography during the day. I mean, how many times can I use the timer to shoot myself in front of the computer? But I think I've done well with regards to my lifestyle - in the sense that it has portrayed my life as it is.

Taking some time before bed to upload the photos and write a little something about the day is also a nice feature. It gives me time to reflect about the day and I quite like that. I should try to keep up with that even after this week.

So, here are a few shots from Wednesday and today.
(Please note that these aren't edited yet)

Wednesday

Busride to work in the rain

Keeping an eye on live updates of a football game that was moved from a Saturday a few weeks back. It went well.

Cooking dinner

Eating dinner

Laundry from Saturday still not put away

Thursday
Documenting the outfit of the day - I suck at taking photos of myself

Walking from the bus stop to work

Conference call at work

Visiting with friends

Getting clothes ready for tomorrow

Aren't you wowed by the amazing adventure that is my day to day life? Ha! It's so repetative and mundane that it's not even funny.

So, three days left. I think I can really do this! I am both surprised and proud. Of course, then there's the whole putting it together thing that I haven't even touched yet ...

week in the life | starting out

I have decided to give "week in the life" a go after reading about it late Sunday night on Ali Edwards' blog, and finding a really good take on it by Lynette Penacho of Nettio Designs.

Now, seeings as I decided on this right before bedtime on Sunday, I haven't really done any preparations at all for a week of high frequency documenting. I don't do P365 or Project Life so documenting details of every day is a new thing for me. Because of this I have decided to not scrap this week in the regular sense, but rather go with the approach that Lynette did last year; compile photos and words into a nicely formatted book. I have thrown together a template, but I might also take the easy route and purchase Lynette's template pack. We'll see how inspired I feel at the end of the week.

I am going to combine dSLR photos with iPhone photos. With my work it's not a realistic thought that I can haul the big camera to meetings and set up the self timer. People would think I am completely crazy! LOL! But it's easy to sneak a pic or two on the iPhone of a detail in that particular situation.

As far as words go, I have found in just these two days that I don't have time to stop and write things down during the day, so I have a document started where I will take a moment before bed and write some thoughts down for each day. I hope this will go well.

Since I haven't ever done this type of projects before, I will try to keep up with posts and tweets about WITL throughout the week. I hope this will keep me motivated and perhaps also give me so inspiration and insight to good tips and tricks.

So, how about a few quick shots from Monday and Tuesday? Go on then!
(please not that these are not yet edited)

Monday
Breakfast in front of the computer at work

Grocery shopping

Cooking dinner (tortellini with mushrooms and ham)

Tuesday
Getting some much needed excercise in

Dinner (Eggplant parmigiana)

p52 | eye candy

Alright, seeing as this is a P52 post after all, I will start off with some none eye candy. So let's not get away with ourselves too much right off the bat here.

A few weeks ago we went to a nursery and got some white hydrangeas (yes, they do stay white no matter what soil is used). Due to the weather being cold we weren't able to plant them until last week. Hopefully they will grow big and luscious. Right now they just look small and fragile but it's still worth noting as part of our everyday life.

So as I said in my last post, we saw Michael Bublé in concert this week. After my bad encounter with security at an Eros Ramazotti concert two years ago (and the Champions League football games last year), I didn't dare to bring my dSLR to the stadium and had to make do with the Canon G12. Now, we did have great seats, so it wasn't a huge problem, but it simply doesn't perform as well as the Nikon. But I got to see him, and I have memories in the shape of photos, so I am a happ camper.

And let's look at him some more!

Swoon worthy indeed!

photography | greetings from stockholm

We went to Stockholm this week to see Michael Bublé in concert and to have a little mini getaway together. The concert was kickin' - it was the same show as we saw in Verona, Italy two years ago, and even though that first one was a better and more mindblowing experience, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. My friend Kristen commented "he melts my butter" to one of my photos on my Instagram feed. That kind of sums it all up I think, LOL!

I will be sharing pics of the dude later, but I thought I'd take the opportunity to post some photos from around Stockholm. I didn't take a ton of photos. I don't know why really - the whole first day I didn't even take the camera out of the bag - I guess I just wasn't inspired enough. But I did get a few in.

A beautiful entrance to a building very close to where we were staying. I kind of wish we could have stayed there instead.

Doggies out for a walk

Nordiska museet, Nordic museum. We didn't go in but passed it on our way to the Wasa Museum. I think this shot is kind of flat, but I liked the drama of the darker building with the cloudy sky.

On the waterfront. I would have been nice to stop by the cafés and bars by the water had it been a bit warmer.

We went to a really swanky food hall with the most amazing produce of all kinds. It was super expensive to eat at the restaurants in there so we only walked around, salivating and getting hungrier by the minute. I got shots of the more spectacular items in there.

We made our way to the old town and quickly got lured into a small chocolate vendor. Who could say no?

The old town is quite beautiful with narrow streets and old, colourful buildings. Unfortunately it's also super touristy.

We also passed by the castle and rested a bit in the sun. The castle itself isn't all that interesting, and we had missed the changing of the guards so after having sat down for a few minutes we headed to the inner city shops.

Alright, tomorrow, eye candy! :)
