project life | week of september 23

It's a weird thing, time. I have spent most of my time the past week on the couch or in bed, just trying to get by. As boring as that might be for anyone who is perfectly healthy, to me the week just disappeared. Flew by. I have few things that I can say, already now, that was special for the week. The few I have have all gone into this week's Project Life pages; a walk in the park before a short meeting with my boss, and seeing my nephew for a couple of hours. Both of those things gave me a glimpse of calm and happiness. Other than that, I hang on to small little details like getting a scarf in the mail, a beautiful sunset, and a delicious breakfast.

It's not much, but it's life. It's my life right now.

laying it out | doing some digi cuts

You guys know I like the fairly straight forward kind of scrapbooking. Even though I enjoy looking at other people's intricate layouts, my own style is pretty simple. But even though simple and sleek is the way to go for me, that doesn't mean I can't shake it up a little every now and then with some simple, but effective tricks while still staying true to my vision.

In this layout I created two slits in the background paper that the photo is slipped into. It's not a huge thing, the photo could just as easily have just been tacked on there, but it adds one little extra touch to the layout without taking over.

(Supplies: Autumn bliss by Anita Designs, Effortless V2 Templates by Crystal Livesay)

In this layout I used the three plastic pockets as foundation for one single photo. By using three clipping masks for the photo it looks like the photo was cut up into three pieces. To accentuate this the three clipping masks were made different sizes. This adds interest to the layout, which is otherwise quite minimalist.

(Supplies: Daily notes papers, Daily notes elements by Anita Designs, Get Schooled - The Kit by Mommyish, Scarlet Letter Full Kit by Gennifer Bursett)

In this layout the cuts aren't too visible, but rather used as an accessory behind the photo. The laser cut look of the white paper element adds interest and depth to help draw the eye to the photo and at the same time lightens the quite element heavy center of the photo.

What do you say about using the technique of cutting stuff up to add interest in a layout?

project life | week of september 16

Here we are again, with a new week of Project Life. I had the worst week in many years last week. Very dark, and filled with many tears. I haven't been doing well for a while, being very stressed, and it finally took its toll on me. Things will have to change around here if I want a shot at feeling better.

The big thing, apart from all the dark and bad stuff, was that I finally got to start my new tattoo. I figured that earned a right to a full page. It also took a little edge off the woe is me on the left side.

I find that most Project Life products out there are featuring wordart and images that concerns happy times. This is all good and well, but let's be honest here - who has a perfectly happy life 100% of the time? I think most people go through days that are a little less shiny and bright. For me, it is important to be brutally honest. After all, it's my life and my project. I need to include even tough times. That means using "happy" products in such a way that it still works. This week, I found it tricky. I had to work on the left side page off and on for several hours before I felt I could let it be. The upside to all this is that I'm quite certain that I will get lots more practice.

So, part of the changes that I need to make is spending less time in front of the computer. I was told by my doctor to do things that make me happy, but right now I can stand about 15 minutes before my brain feels like it is going to explode. That means that I will be making less digital art, and will also likely have less to share here. So if I end up being a little quiet for a while, you know why.

laying it out | crazy folk

Yes, we are crazy. Yes, I love it. The husband and I? A good fit. He makes me laugh with his crazy antics. He makes me not care too much. He makes me a better person.

project life | week of september 9

Last week was a hard one for me. I put in overtime, spent three days away for work, and had multiple migraines. The weekend went by way too fast, and I generally felt like a zombie at the end of the week. Still, I made an effort to document it as best I could.

On the right side page I documented a few things that I like at the moment; from little things like songs I sing along to, to my favourite series, to my husband's gift to me on my birthday. Of course he made it on the list as well! I thought it would be nice to look back on not only what I was doing each week this year, but also what I enjoyed.

laying it out | just a wee little layout

Seeing as I was away almost all of last week, and then had to put in overtime during the weekend, I had little to no time to play. So apart from documenting my two project life pages, all I had time for was one little layout. I guess one is better than none at all, right?

The picture was taken at Lago d'Orta during our trip to Italy this summer. It's a beautiful place and if you're even passing by, then do stop and enjoy the beauty. We had a lovely day there, even if I ended up with sunstroke.

I felt the soft colours of the Amy Tangerine Cut & Paste Mini Kit for Project Life fit perfectly.
I guess this layout is another example of the versatility of journal cards. You don't have to use them only for project life pages; they work just as well with regular layouts.

project life | week of september 2

Last week was all about work travel, for both of us. We hardly even saw eachother all week due to different travel schedules. I hate weeks like that, but it also makes me grateful that it's not our usual life.

I also made a point to document small, everyday things that made life just a little bit better. I really liked how that came out, and will try to do that as often as possible.

laying it out | london album in the works

Slowly but surely I am making my way into the London album. More slowly than surely, to be honest. I'm still on day one! Ha! But I have three spreads to share with you today.

 photo London8-9-web.jpg

And, seeing as the pages are quite small, here are the single pages that aren't full bleed photos.

I figure I have two more spreads to go before I can start with day two. Baby steps, people!

birthday boxes

We wanted to do something really pretty for our mum's birthday presents and for some reason I was put in charge of that (haha).

I got some nice and sturdy boxes from our local craft shop and covered them with beautiful paper from Carina Gardner's Bella Bella Kit from a few years back. Yeah, I've had it for years but never wanted to use the papers because, you know, they were so pretty. But for this project they were perfect.

I also used the paper to make a card that matched. I cut long strips that I put diagonally across the front of the card. I love the way that looks and feels, with the many layers.

 photo DSC_0629_web.jpg

I tried writing the greeting inside, but after an hour it looked crooked and sloppy and the ink had bled horribly. So I decided to scratch that and just go ahead and print it. I love the big text covering the full page.

 photo DSC_0633_web.jpg

I took me quite a few hours last week to get this finished. The covering of the boxes was tricky business. But I think it was all worth it.

p52 | end of summer

With our summer holiday coming to an end I wanted a really summery picture to reflect all the stuff we got up to. The husband on the blue trolley was just that. I like all the greens and blues together.

My beautiful, smart, strong, and all around competent mother had a milestone birthday last week and how could I not choose this gorgeous photo of her?

project life | week of august 26

Here we are again with another week passed (wow, didn't last week just fly by) and it's time for some new project life pages.

We went back to work again after having had four weeks off, and that was naturally a huge time suck. There wasn't time for as much photography taking as the past couple of weeks. I need to really think about this for the coming year. I can't have fifty shots of my tea cup in front of the keyboard. That will be a very boring album. I would be so glad for some tips and pointers from those of you who work full time away from home; how do you get interesting photos during the week?

The husband started on his half sleeve tattoo with an all day sitting, and my mother had a milestone birthday. Those were the big events of the week. I am planning on doing seperate LOs for both of those as soon as I can. Not this week though as I am off on a work trip with no computer to scrap on.

I had this idea to do each month in a different colour scheme. I thought it would be cool to be able to tell the months apart from eachother only by looking at the colour. But then I had a brain fart and did the last week of August in a different colour than the rest. So yeah, now I don't really know what to do about that. I might go back and change the colours of these two. But I also like the yellow with the delicate flowers. So we'll see. Maybe I will come up with another plan, ha!

laying it out | single square photos

For some reason, I'm really liking to scrap square photos at the moment. Maybe it's beause I've been so wrapped up in my London album as well as the Project Life as of late that I feel like doing simple pages with lots of white space, and small square photos. I feel like that is so much my natural style and I am so comfortable creating it.
