laying it out | london challenge

Last week when I made the Streets of London layout, Gennifer Bursett of Pixels and Company challenged me to make another London page with a map paper from the Piccadilly Kit - which is totally gorgeous and you should really get it right away - and knowing me, I can never back away from a challenge.

I chose to do a layout about the hotel we stayed in when we were there in August and made sure to get in the part of London where the hotel is; Clerkenwell. I thought it would be fun to point it out on the map. Here is the finished product.

Looking at the pictures, it kind of makes me wish I could go back today!

p52 | seven weeks of autumn

Dang it, I don't think I've ever missed posting my Project 52 photos for so many weeks in a row! I have struggled to get these done. Mostly because I don't do much. But also because I have lost interest. I said at the beginning already that I would give it a try and keep going until I didn't feel like it anymore. And in all honesty, I don't feel like it anymore. I know that some of these are much less than inspired. I know it. But now that I only have six more weeks to go until the year is finished I know that I just have to keep with it. Just six more photos. It would be stupid to give up now.

project life | week of november 11

Life continues to mix the good with the bad for me at the moment. I got sick, we had a punctured tire, and I had some tough moments in my pursuit of trying to come back to a normal state of being. But there were also birthdays, an anniversary, and lovely times with loved ones. I am thankful for those good moments.

guest blogging at pixels & co

You guys, pop on over to the Pixels & Co blog today, where I am blogging about using journaling cards in "regular" scrapbook layouts. You know I love that topic, LOL! Anyway, I give a couple of ideas on how to use them, and also share some beautiful examples by the talented creative team members at Pixels & Co.

laying it out | of love and character

I am a luck girl in so many ways. Mostly because I am married to the most amazing husband in the history of ever. He takes care of me when I'm down, and when I'm not feeling well. He treats me so well and loves me so much. I don't know who I would be or what I would do without him.

Working on my London album made me want to do a page with some of the photos, that aren't necessarily tied to eachother more than in colour and character. I like that there is so much more than just steel and concrete in London, so much personality and history. I wanted to capture that in one layout.

project life | week of november 4

Most of the photos in this week's layouts are from the walks I took. Not only do we live very close to some beautiful surroundings, but I also felt good getting out in the fresh air and just keep putting one foot before the other and enjoy the views. So while it might seem a bit one sided I don't mind - the photos are pretty and they work well together on the pages.

As for the design of the pages, I am trying to figure out if I should step out of the box of the format I set up for myself in this project and do different colours for the month of November. I like the blue/green of these pages but I also think it's a bit too close to the August pages. So we'll see, maybe I'll do a whole range of colours this month and then go back in December to my one colour format. Maybe I'll stick with the blue/green. We will have to see how much I can control my OCD tendencies! Ha!

laying it out | london album continued

This week I have allowed myself to not do any kind of work on the computer at all. I have thought about opening it up a few times, but haven't felt like I had the focus, the strength, or the interest to sit in front of it.

But, I have a few layouts for our London album that I made a while ago, that I haven't shared before, that I would like to show you today. I'm finally finished with day one, and got a good start on day two. Yay me!

Here are the single pages that are not full bleed photos:

I am really liking how this album is shaping up. I like the large white space canvas combined with the shabby elements, papers, and frames. I like that it's combined with the very sleek full bleed photos.

Now I'm just hoping to have inspiration and focus enough to be able to finish it.

photography | autumn walks

I try to take a short walk everyday, just to get some fresh air and to move a little more than between my bed and the sofa. It's been raining a lot lately but I have been able to get some half decent shots in the last couple of days.

Autumn is good when it comes to photography because the sun isn't too strong, and the colours are amazing. So even when it's raining (not too much) and cold it can be a good idea to get that camera out.

Now if only I didn't feel so cold all the time, I'd be a fan of autumn any day!

project life | week of october 28

When creating the pages for the week of October 28 I had to really scramble put it all together. I simply hadn't taken enough photos during the week to fill all the spots I wanted to fill. It took me a few tries, and a couple of hours, to finally feel ok with the pages. Some weeks are like that, and it has to be ok to not be perfectly happy with every single page. Some weeks won't give you enough opportunity for lots of photos, and sometimes you just aren't up to it.

I'm not going to beat myself up about it. My life is what it isn and not much is happening in my everyday life right now. This project is about documenting it, not trying as hard as possible to make it prettier and better than it really is. Being authentic is important in this project, and I had to remind myself of that today in front of the computer when I wasn't happy with what I had to work with.

So here are the pages for the last week of October:

home edition | graphic guestroom

So I've been wanting for a while to change things up a little in our guestroom/husband's whisky room (the fact that he's drunk most of it hasn't changed our name for the room). When we moved the big red rug to his "mancave" it got very bare and the need was apparent.

So before the room was very red:
(Please ignore the numbers, the pics were from this post)

I really wanted to go with a graphic pattern to bring life to the room, and when the husband nixed turquoise/mint/teal colour scheme we decided to go with black and white. We really didn't do much; I bought a few new cushion covers, a blanket, and a rug which made up 90% of the change. It just needed two not so minor details to finish it off. I love these two details! The absolutely gorgeous print by Gennifer Bursett that I had printed and then framed, and the hat lamp that we created ourseslves by making holes in hats and putting light fixtures in them. I think it's so fun and quirky. We didn't have any smaller light bulbs at home, but those will be changed ASAP.

So after the room is very graphic and a little more up to date:

I think the blond wood and the tan sofa seems to look better with the black and white colour scheme than with the red as I think it was just too much warmth in that small room. It feels cleaner, roomier and airier now. I am very happy!
