Breathing the fresh air

This week's New52 was a real challenge for me. Let me explain; it wasn't the least difficult to think of or to plan. In fact, I planned for this about four weeks ago. But then actually getting my behonkey in gear and doing it was the challenging part. You see, when it comes to things I don't particularly like to do, I procrastinate. This is true for laundry, taxes, and getting up in the morning. I push it in front of me until the very last possible moment. Excercise and getting out in the fresh air falls under this category too. What can I say, I like to cuddle up on the sofa under a blanket.

Now the plan was to go out for a short, but brisk, walk in the nearby park every day during my lunch break. Ten minutes of fresh air. It couldn't hurt, right? And how difficult could it be to pull off? Ha! Apparently very, as of today I have done it twice. Pathetic, I know. But now I've started, now I just have to keep it up. I do look forward to warmer seasons, though.

Crispy new pretties

I'm not much for winter. I do love snowflakes, but that has surprisingly little to do with winter itself and pretty much only to do with the beauty of their structure. I confess to also love Christmas, but the again I think I would love it even more had it been in July.  No, winter could quite possibly rank as my No. 1 least favourite season - not that there are too many to choose from, mind you.

However, there is one thing I really enjoy on a cold, gray, and dreary January day and that is to go to the shops and pick up a bunch of crisp, fresh, and pretty tulips. I love the sound of the waxy leaves rubbing against eachother, the soft pastels of the petals, and the hope of spring that they automatically bring with them. I also love that all I have to do is enjoy them until they are ready to be thrown away (ya, I pretty much suck at taking care of plants which is why bouquets of fresh flowers is the only kind of live plants I buy).

This week I got a pretty mix of red, pink, and yellow. Love them.

Just another Saturday night dinner

I shared a little piece of the dinner table for last weeks Saturday night dinner with the husband's brother with family. I thought I'd share a little more.

I like brown. Brown is a staple in my life. Our kitchen/dining room/living room (which makes up half the house really) is a combination of whites, tans, and browns. I like browns together with pastel colours like baby blue or pink. I also like browns with jewel colours. Like this gorgeous turqoise on my table here.

Make a book with me!

I am so excited to bring you this Hybrid Friday Project! This project is all about favourites; places, moments, people, quotes, restaurants, pictures, wines - pretty much anything you want really.

We've had a tiny little book for years where we write down really good wines we've tried, when we drank it, what it was called, what it tasted like, and what we ate with it. I really like this kind of collecting and recently I designed a new book  to keep the tradition going.

In this project you will get my design (both printable PDF files and psd layered templates) and you will learn how to hand bind the book with a beautiful exposed coptic stitch binding.

A "just because" kind of layout

I like it when I find the time to scrap for myself, just because. Creating without any commitments whatsoever can be very soothing for the soul. Today I found that time which I am delighted about.

supplies used in this layout:
Sassy Season Paper Pack, Moments Paper Pack, Basically {Striped + Checked} Paper Pack
Postage Alpha, Charmed Alpha, Sassy Season Elements Pack, You Are Loved Mini Kit,
Button Up blog freebie - all by In the Making Design

I'm off on a business trip for a few days, but I will be back on Friday with a new product for Hybrid Project Friday. I am so excited about this one so you don't want to miss it!

Paper cabbage

I made paper decorations for our dinner table this weekend.

I made them just like coiled paper roses but I didn't glue the center down so the coil unrolled when I released. I think they almost look like some kind vegetable ... a cabbage maybe? I like it. I think it's pretty. I used papers by Jen Wilson (from a Christmas pack a few years back I think - very pretty papers) and added satin ribbon and a glass bead. Very simple DYI decorations.

New in store - Indulgence

In view of my New52 post yesterday you have probably guessed that I like sweet things. Who doesn't, huh? Well I like it so much that I felt I needed to create a kit all devoted to just that; sweets. Yay!

The papers in this kit make me think of milky chocolates, and softly coloured marzipan. The elements pack features wordart, handdrawn rubons, a full alpha, frames, and more.

Off the charts cute

We had the best kind of company today - the totally cute and adorable kind. We had dinner with my sister and her boyfriend and of course our little nephew tagged along. It is completely impossible to not gush over how adorable he is. Look at those eyes. Look at those cheeks. Aw baby!

Sweet and tasty

It's a strange thing. Like I have talked about before, in my first New52 post, I'm not much good in the kitchen when it comes to cooking. But for some reason I can rock it pretty well with desserts and baking. I think it's the exactness and need for step by step execution of baking that makes it possible for me to get through it without panic. With cooking you always need to have a million things going at once which totally stresses me out.

So with not being too shabby with the baked goods comes an interest in finding really good recipes to try out. That, and I like to look at the mouthwatering pictures of dessert/baking cookbooks. I've got quite the substantial collection going. I haven't even begun to try most of it - mostly because if I did we would be rolling in thish house.

This week, while doing our weekly grocery shopping, I stumbled across a recipe book completely devoted to cupcakes on sale and it just happened to slip into the grocery bags. How could I resist? It was on sale after all. And it seems to have been worth it because the one I tried today turned out pretty terrific.

I give you chocolate and cheesecake cupcakes. I opted to not have any frosting because I liked the crackled top. I thought it was pretty in all its imperfection.

I can attest to them being very soft and tasty.
My little nephew Wilmer's christening is coming up and my sister asked me to help out with the invitations. The game plan was to use a photo that I took at the hospital when he was just two days old, and to go with a sweet design in green hues.

This is the front. The photo part is printed on Ilford satin photo paper which is attached to the two layered card.

And the inside which has a full bleed pattern and a dooted outlined text area. The card is printed on heavy textured white cardstock.

What a little darling he is. I love that photo!

A source of inspiration

Ah, inspiration, that elusive flash of lightning that goes off inside of you (gut? heart? head? combination of all of those?) for a second or two. How I love when it shows up and how it frustrates me when I can't evoke it or control it. It's a love/hate relationship for me with inspiration for sure, granted not a 50/50 ratio, but still the frustration is definitely there at times.

I like to look at pretty things when it's all a mess inside of my head and I can't quite get my ideas out. I find it calms me down and helps me focus. Sometimes it makes a certain idea seem crystal clear - and I love those times - and sometimes it just makes me feel happy. I think that's a kind of inspiration too.

I thought it would be a cool idea to compile a little list of places and things that give me tons of inspiration - both for digi design and for feeling happy and refreshed. At the very least they might inspire any one of you guys as well.

Now this is a list I will have to come back to and add on to as time goes. One can't very well put a restraint to inspirational places, right?

My Fonts
The perfect place for typeface and typographic inspiration. I've signed up for their newsletter and it's cool to get their picks in the inbox every now and then.

Lovely Package
All about great package design. Fabulous pictures. *love* this site.

Style Me Pretty
Swoon! Amazing weddings are featured here. Beautiful photography and fabulous design details in abundance. Also, weddings make me immensly happy.

The epitome of style. Nuff said.

Paper Source
This place has high quality paper design and their front page is always very colourful and inspirational.
This place is quite genial. I like the idea of collecting pretty, inspirational, images in one place that doesn't take up space on my own computer. I like clicking through my collection and looking at what I felt grabbed me at one point of time. Another plus is that you can hook up with other people and see their collections as well. I'm lindsan if anyone is on there.

Hostess with the mostess
Hip, fun, and trendy this place is the go to for party detail designs for me.
Also, I had the honour of being featured twice. Awesomely awesome.

Swedish blogger with impeccable taste. Centered around interior design but she branches out every now and then.

Martha Stewart
Needs no further introduction!

This is the perfect place for finding great colour combinations. Colour is a huge source of inspiration for me and just looking at the swatches at this site can cause flutters in my stomach.

Colour Lovers
Another fabulous place for colour combos. This place grabs the combos from photos or graphic design.

Do you have any favourite sites for inspiration that you would like to share? Please do!

CK loves me! For real!

OK, so maybe not, but I was greeted by a nice surprice when I came home today; in my letter box there was a copy of Creating Keepsakes' special edition "Best of Digital Scrapbooking" magazine. Cool! The reason? One of my layouts is featured! It has been featured before, but I never would have thought it would make a "Best of" edition. A nice surprise indeed!

If you have the magazine, you can see my layout on page 45. :)

P52 on a slow week

I think this week's P52 needs no further explanation ... This week has consisted of work, design work, and invite production (more on that in a few days). I haven't really had the time for anything else and I gave myself a break today with some down time in front of the telly with comfort food and ice cream.

Edit: Um, that chocolate sauce looks like dog turd. I assure you that it tasted better than it looks!

Doing the New52 dance

I've been battling rosacea and major sensitive skin for a couple of years and one of the things that I had very high on my list of new things to do for the year was to find a skin care regimen that actually works for me. I have tried countless brands from the department store make up counters and home remedies. All with the same result; absolutely no change what so ever. So I figured it was time for professional help (lol, took me long enough eh).

So the new thing this week was an appointment with a dermatologist, facial treatment, and shiny bottles in my bathroom cabinets.

As with all cronic issues, rosacea hasn't gone poof away, and mysteriously I don't look like Penelope Cruz yet, but I'm giving this a shot, hoping at least it will help a little.

New in store - Good times

Templates - they can be a life saver sometimes, no? I love how, when I at times have stared at that blank new document for what seems like ages and ages, can open a template and be instantly inspired and full of creativity just because I was given a start.

Because of this I also love to create templates. It's like infusing a little piece of inspiration into someone else's brain. I am just so in love with that concept.

So this week I have a new template and quick page combo! Yay!
