laying it out | one kit two ways

Alrighty, I've shared with you different ideas for using Project Life products for non Project Life layouts a few times before. In this post I want to share how I created two different style layouts with the same products.

The marvellous thing about visual arts is that there are so many different ways to use the same base. This never ceases to amaze me. And, being on a creative team where I get access to amazing products - the Project Life kits - that are supposed to be used in a completely different way than I feel comfortable with, it makes me so compelled to challenge the rules and create completely differently than intended. But doing that, I also feel I should try the intended way.

So, in that vein, here are two layouts using the same products, but composed in two completely different ways.

The journaling cards, that are the base of the Project Life kits, are used in both layouts. In the first layouts they are used as is, in their full size, and have equal weight and importance as the photos. In the second layout they are clipped to shape layers and serve as accents to the photographs. This is the important difference in pocket style layouts and my natural style. The photos always take center stage in the layouts that I usually create.

I have to say, I do prefer the "regular" style layout with lots of yummy white space and layering. But I still am amazed that the same products can be used in such different ways. What do you say, which style do you prefer?

laying it out | quartet

Please let me share with you four new layouts created with the Photo Stories Kit series by Liv.e Designs.

This layout was completely inspired by that super cute little flair with the funny face get up. Sometimes layouts don't have to be grounded in a profound and meaningful occasion in life. Sometimes a pretty little detail, even if it is a digi scrap product, can bring on the inspiration to create.  I like that. As it happened, I had a photo of me from a few years back that fit the theme perfectly!

(Photo Stories Krafty Papers Pack, Photo Stories Everyday Chips, Photo Stories Everyday Pebbles, Splatters Vol. 1, Smudge It Vol. 1, Texture Magic, T+Mini Adoration all by Liv.e Designs, Toolbox Mists Vol. 10 by Gennifer Bursett)

I love this shot of the husband from last year. We were perched on the steps to a church, overlooking piazza Venezia and the city of Rome. Everything in life was perfect at this moment.

You know I have been going on and on about how much I hate winter and cold, grey skies and rain, gloominess and drab. This photo was brought on by the beautiful rays of the sun shining into my office the other week. I could feel hope and joy bubble inside of me, and needed to document that feeling.

I know, I know, I am spoiled rotten. I get the best food ever served, if not on a daily basis, then certainly every week. I usually say that I chose well when I married a chef. It's true.

laying it out | us

Time for some lovey dovey mush on the blog! It's been a while since I got to be a little cutesy about my love for the husband, and we can't have that now can we? LOL!

The photo was taken in a spur of the moment kind of thing as we were heading out the door for a dinner with family the other week. I can only say that I love my iPhone. It takes pretty good photos, I'd say. I can't help but chuckle; I was standing on the tip of my toes for this one, and he is still so much taller than I am. Crazy!

laying it out | photo stories

Besides working, I'm pleased to say that I was also able to create no less than three layouts. So, yeah, haven't done much more to brag about in the last couple of days, but that is ok. :)

We started planning our weekly dinners a while ago. Before, even though we did go shopping once a week, it was never planned out exactly what we would eat in the coming week. That meant that we bought food that then never got cooked our eaten and had to be thrown out. Now, we decide on dinners before we go shopping. I think it's working out well. First of all, the shopping process is much more streamlined, the food we get is used up, and I get to take advantage of my huge collection of recipe books and recipe pins on Pinterest! Hee!

p52 | portraits

I keep falling off the posting wagon lately. I did so well, with posting five times a week, in January and February. Then the computer died in March, and I struggled for a while. Now that April has rolled around, I am completely swamped at work which means working late a lot. Most days I don't get home until 6.30 or 7pm. After dinner and everyday life stuff I have little energy or time left to actually do more than browse Facebook and Pinterest on my phone. So I ask you to please bear with me while I try to just survive for a couple of weeks.

But I do have two weeks' worth of Project 52 photos to share with you.
If you have been following along with my layout postings, you have seen both of these already.

First off, the boy. I like his expression in this photo. I also like the situation in which the photo was shot. It's a good memory.

 photo P52_2013_14_logo.jpg

Then, believe it or not, it's a photo of me! I figure I need to include at least one each year. So let's go with this one then. Ha!

laying it out | a bunch of stuff

I had intended to spread these layouts out over the course of last week. Did not happen. Life came in the way, and that is just the way it is sometimes. But let me catch up and share with you what I have created lately.

The journaling for this layout was actually written years ago, for a journaling class at but I knew exactly what I wanted to do when I saw Karla's beautiful kit, and immediately came to think about those four rows of words. To sum things up; I had a tough time, but I got through it and came out better in the end.
 photo pco_130412_lindaroos_healing.jpg
(Supplies: Butterfly Kit, Life 365 Stamp Sheet by Karla Dudley, Fun With Shapes v. 3 by Crystal Livesay all at Pixels&Co)

I took this photo when the little nephew stayed with us and we were out playing. He was selling me pretend icecream and heavily overcharging me here. Funny boy.

(Supplies: These Are The Days Kit by Karen Funk, Life 365 Stamp Sheet by Karla Dudley, Grow With Love Letters Templates March by Crystal Livesay, In Good Company Collab Newsletter Freebie Kit all from Pixels&Co)

The photos in this layout are all iPhone photos that were taken during our trip to Rome last year. I think that even though they don't show any of the beautiful sights that we saw, they do tell a great story about our trip. Like, it rained. Some days a lot. Like, it smelled really bad on our daily busrides to and from the city center. Like, I had my camera fixed to the face all the time, even when I was eating gelato. Good examples of a great time.

laying it out | full heart

I spent the weekend, and a few more days, with my little nephew while my sister and her husband went on a well deserved mini getaway on their own. It was a truly wonderful weekend with the funniest little snuggle bug. It had to be documented of course.

 photo pco_130405_lindaroos_myheartisfull.jpg
(Supplies: Window Systems Templates Set 3 by Simply Tiffany, Keeping Tabs Weekday Files by Robyn Meierotto, Butterfly Kit by Karla Dudley all from Pixels & Co)

So, as you can see I decided to try a more Project Life-ish approach for the layout. I have felt that the look doesn't fit my style. Even though I see the upsides to the approach; you can get in multiple photos and journaling space at the same time, I still feel like this isn't for me. I need white space to be happy and I never thought I would say this, I want a little less structure.

But look at the photos, though. Isn't he just the sweetest little thing?

laying it out | quattro

I am super excited about the content in this post! I am such a lucky girl that I get to create layouts with some of the most amazing digital supplies in the industry. I have had the fortune to be invited to be part of three fantastic creative teams (one as a guest), and I feel so very grateful every day. So, today I get to post four layouts created with beautiful products from AC Digitals.

A love not to my darling husband. I wrote this on our 11th anniversary in November.

Oh, you guys! This photo popped up on my Instagram feed the other week. I follow Michael Buble and he had this shot taken with Rick Astley. My heart skipped a beat. My teen idol with my all time favourite artist. Could it be better? I had to scrap it!

photography | insta baking

 photo ITM-Key-Lime-Pie-web.jpg
3 limes, 4 egg yolks, 1 can condensed milk, 10 digestive crackers, 50 grams butterbake bottom 175 degrees celcius for 10 minutes, bake cake 140 degrees celcius 25 minutesdecorate with lime zest and whipped cream

I decided to shoot my baking process of the key lime pie we had last week with my iPhone, just for fun. I think the telephone is easy and quick to use in the kitchen where there are lots of things going on at the same time, and a bunch of messes all over the place. The big girl camera tends to get in the way, especially for those actions shots. I find it difficult to focus and zoom with one hand while pouring or whisking or whatever with the other. With the phone, it's so much easier to get the action shots in.

While I don't consider myself cook book material, I do think it would be kind of neat to make a home made mini cook book of my own in this format. This would be especially fitting for the spring and summer food that tends to be easier to cook.

And as a side note; if you get a chance do try this recipe out. It's wicked good!

laying it out | not amused (with a great tip you don't want to miss)

So, spring. I think someone needs to have a serious talk with spring. I can't remember when it was as late. This last week the sun has finally started shining, but it's still so very cold. And then, on the first day of spring mother earth played a trick on us and gave us a snowstorm. I was not amused. Not at all.

 photo bh130325_lindaroos_1stdayofspring-1.jpg
(Supplies: Becky Higgins Project Life Rain Edition by Nisa Fiin, Crate Paper Sleigh Ride Kit all from AC Digitals, Lucky Bums Template by Simply Tiffany at Pixels & Co)

Now, my friends, here is a great tip that you don't want to miss if you want to get your hands on the Rain Edition by the fabulous Nisa Fiin. It is not yet available for sale in digital format at AC Digitals or in paper format. But, if you sign up for a membership at Daily Digi, you will get part of the edition as part of this month's member kit. You get immediate access to the current kit when you sign up.

And, of course, I continue my quest to show that PL supplies can be used quite comfortably for normal scrapbook pages. LOL!

p52 | sweets

So with Easter being the big thing happening last week, I thought it fitting that the object of the photo was something related to it. Sweets! These are our favourites, from Anthon Berg.

And yes, I did bring out my big girl camera for this one! Hee!

easter dinner

 photo DSC_0015_web.jpg

I thought I'd share, as I always do, what our table looked like for our Easter dinner. There were only six of us, and after a late decision to host the dinner coupled with two very busy weeks leading up to Saturday, I decided to not go overboard.

I decided to use the eggs I decorated the other week coupled with two simple vases with white and yellow tulips as centerpieces. White candles on pillar glass holders were put on the end to add some dynamic. They were never lit because we had dinner way before it got dark. But that didn't matter, just the mere precesence of them on the table added to the presentation.

 photo DSC_0009_web.jpg

 photo DSC_0007_web.jpg

The cotton table cloth is white with black tiny dots, and I chose to use the striped napkins that I still have from my sister's wedding last summer. I love being able to use and reuse supplies time and time again.

I got a few more preblown eggs and used them as seating "cards" by writing the initial of each person with a pen, which just happened to match the eggs in the centerpiece. Smart way to make it easy on myself and go with an already established theme.

 photo DSC_0004_web.jpg

I had four glass mini cake stands from a previous event and used them to nest the eggs in. The hay was found in old Christmas baskets that we have recieved in the past couple of years. Again, reusing all kinds of things for different purposes is the way to go if you want to be able to set a nice table on a budget. Of course, this does mean a bit of hoarding I admit. But if you are organized in your hoarding (which is an entirely different post all together) it can be without living in a castle.

It didn't matter all too much to me that I didn't have a glass stand for each person. I simply used two egg cups for the middle seats. This is something that I want to stress. Everything doesn't have to be exactly the same on a table! What matters, at least in my opinion, is that there is symmetry. So in this case, the four outer seats had the glass stands, and the two middle seats had the egg cups. Worked well enough for me. Work with what you have, I say.

 photo DSC_0011_web.jpg

So, apart from the eggs and the flowers, everything on the table was already in my house. Pretty chuffed with that.

So food, you say? Did we have any? Yes indeed. It looked like this:
Starter was two Smörrebröd with pickled hering (eaten at every single holiday in Sweden) and smoked salmon and roe. Courtesy of the husband.
 photo DSC_0023_web.jpg

Main was lemon and oregano rooster and caramelized crushed potatoes with spinach. The herb yoghurt that was also served with this dish is not shown. Also courtesy of the husband.
 photo DSC_0027_web2.jpg

Dessert was Key Lime Pie, courtesy of moi.
 photo DSC_0029_web.jpg

And that was it. How was your Easter? Did you have a gathering of some sort?

laying it out | sweet things

Hello Monday! A new fresh week awaits us! Of course, having had time off for the Easter holiday I am feeling slightly off on my schedule but let's get started shall we?

I have four layouts to share with you today. The first three have all been made with the Company Stash for April at Pixels & Co. It works just like the ever popular "Build Your Own Kit"; the designers have worked within a certain theme and colour scheme, and you can pick and choose to make your own complete kit.

I have shown you this photo for the P52 series. I just love it so much. It fills me with happiness when I look at it.

I really enjoy baking. I don't do well with cooking, but baking is something I really enjoy doing. Here is a in action shot of the Key Lime Pie I made for our Easter dinner.

I got this shot of our Easter treats and thought they would make a good symbol for our weekend, and how I feel about spring, and the promise of new hope and fresh starts.

Ok, so now let us dream for a minute! Winter is doing every little bit it can to stop Spring to make its final breakthrough here. So the warmth of Summer is definitely seeming like a dream at this point. This layout is all about being able to wear a skirt and some pretty sandals.
