hybrid hotness | balloon mobile

I have a little niece due in just a few weeks, and I wanted to make something for her arrival.
It ended up being the cutest thing I think I have made. It was a good deal of work; cutting and gluing paper, but it was so well worth it.

 photo ITM_Ballonmobile3.jpg

So the thing is a mobile with 3D balloons and clouds. I created it with digital papers from the Happy Life Mini Kit by Robyn Meierotto at Pixels and Company, some string, and an embroidery hoop.

 photo ITM_Ballonmobile5.jpg

 photo ITM_Ballonmobile4.jpg

Making the mobile is technically easy, but takes a good deal of time, energy, and patience. This is especially true if you don't have a cutting machine like Silhouette. I don't have one and it took me about 10-12 hours to make it from start to finish.

 photo ITM_Ballonmobile6.jpg

The steps to making the mobile include:
- Creating the shapes in Photoshop
- Printing 5 balloon baskets (one on each strand),10 mini clouds (making five 2D clouds, one on each strand), 40 balloons (making five 3D balloons, one on each strand), and 40 large clouds (making five 3D clouds, one on each strand)
- Folding all balloons and large clouds in half
- Assembling the 3D balloons and clouds with doublesided tape (a lot of it)
- Creating the baskets
- Assembling each strand of the mobile on an emroidery hoop with a glue gun
- Finishing up with ribbon and rings for hanging

 photo ITM_Ballonmobile2.jpg

 photo ITM_Ballonmobile1.jpg

I am very happy with the finished results. I hope the little girl will enjoy it for many years to come!

laying it out | a little bit of this ...

I always participate in the Digimorph games at Pixels and Company. In June we kicked off another one. Never took part? Check out the forums for the reveal post to see some really beautiful work. The game goes like this: One layout is chosen from the gallery by our fearless leader Kat. The layout is sent to two people taking part. They scraplift and then send it on. And so it goes until everyone signed up have created a layout on their own. It's like that whispers game we played as kids, you know?

Anyway, this time I was first up to create a layout and this was the result:

Summer has been giving us both good and bad weather so far. We are still working for a couple of weeks before it's time for summer holiday, but we are doing our best to enjoy the days. Nothing so far has compared to this one night about a year ago though. I had to remember and indulge for a while, and created this layout:
 photo cspco_140625_lindaroos_summer.jpg
(Supplies: Summerific Elements, Summerific Papers by Creashens, A Story Captured Vol 7 by Anita Designs)

My little nephew spent a day with me last week, and we spent a good deal of it pretending we were pirates on a big ship, at the local playground. It was nothing short of blissful. Naturally, he was the captain who kept losing his coconuts and fishing rods. Naturally I was the deck hand who had to climb up and down getting them. LOL! But what I wouldn't do for him!

And, no, I haven't forgotten about Project Life! I will do a post tomorrow!

laying it out | of love fests and the drag of everyday

You know I'm a sucker for the husband. You know, as I said just the other day, that I love to create pages about him. And on a day like Valentine's Day I choose to continue with the sappy love. This is us. With a lot of glasses.

 photo wwcpco_140203_lindaroos_mwah.jpg
(Supplies: Aflutter | Kit by Laura Passage, You Charmer | Templates, Digi Basics | Neutral Smears by Mye De Leon)

But then there is the drag of the everyday. The days when I'm left alone to entertain myself. As you can see in the pictures, I'm not all that good at entertaining myself - I've got a frown on all of them! But I figure it's a good idea to hash it all out and hope to do some healing through the scrapbooking.

laying it out | things that make me happy

I guess my favourite topic to scrap is things that make me happy. That can of course be a huge variety of things, but why limit myself? The husband is a recurring person in my layouts. Here is another one.

One thing that I always feel I need during the winter months is fresh flowers in a vase. They help to keep my faith that there will ever be something called spring coming around. The punch of colour is a much welcome aspect in my life.

laying it out | introspective scrapping

Just to prove that I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, I'm coming up to the surface to post a layout that I made in a contemplative mood.

 photo stspco_140116_lindaroos_explore.jpg
(Supplies: Pocket Journal Card Templates | Notched by Simply TIffany Studios, Be Thankful | Mini Kit by Robyn Meierotto, Curiosity by Pixels and Co designers)

Being on a journey of trying to come back from exhaustion and depression means looking real hard at some harsh truths about myself. At the moment I'm at a place of trying to embrace that, trying to enjoy learning more about myself and how I function. That is pretty much what was on my mind when I created the layout.

The photo doesn't really, in itself, have anything to do with what I am journaling about. I took the photo over a year ago at an outing with my husband and father. It was a very windy day with dramatic waves and clouds. It took a lot to get any good photos standing on the slippery rocks at that beach. But in the midst of all that drama I can now sense calm and what I remember is a silent determination to not get it right, let a lone perfect, but to at least try. That is exactly what I want to be able to apply in my life as a whole. There might be drama all around me, but if I can be secure in my own self and know that no matter the outcome I am me, then I think I would be really happy. So with that I feel the photo fits perfectly.

See how deep and soul enriching scrapbooking can be? Shapes, and colours, and patterns in a digital file encompasses the difficult premises of this thing called existance. Amazing isn't it?

And with that, I bid you a good weekend. I will be back Monday with two weeks of Project Life!

laying it out | using older photos

So here's the thing: my life isn't always very eventful. I don't always have lots of new photos and topics to scrap about. What I do have is several photos from specific events and occasions that I never got to use (you know when you have hundreds of photos from one day and it's impossible to scrap them all when you first document the occasion). I also have photos that I want to use again and again simply because I feel like I want to document the occasion again from a different perspective, or because the photo just fits a feeling I want to convey.

So with that, I want to plug using older photos on new layouts. I want to do it by showing you these layouts.

Photos from January 2013, which I first used in this layout
 photo stspco_130102_lindaroos_thisfamily.jpg
(Supplies: Pocket Journal Card Templates | Originals by Simply Tiffany Studios, Forever And A Day | Templates by Sabrina's Creations, Be Thankful | Mini Kit, Snippets - Real Life by Robyn Meierotto, Anchored | Elements by Gennifer Bursett, Torn and Stitched by Mye De Leon)

Photos from July 2013, which I first used on this layout
 photo pco_140102_lindaroos_importantdetails.jpg
(Supplies: Curiosity Collab by Pixels and Co designers, Life Cards by Karla Dudley)

I have used all of these photos before but I really like them, and I really like to remember the moments where they were taken, so I am not going to let the fact that they have already been used stop me.

I also feel like the new layouts are completely different in both feel and look. I think going back to older photos can be a good thing. I really like the soft colours and the modern, graphic patterns that I have used on these layouts and I think that compliments the photos so well.

As you can see, I have chosen to not journal on these new layouts. This time I wanted to focus on the feeling that these photos give me and just keep it simple. That can work very well especially since they have already been scrapped before.

And just for the heck of it, here is a new layout with new photos!

laying it out | thankful

So I just wanted to wish you a happy Friday and weekend by sharing a lovey dovey layout about the husband. He has such patience with me, which he shows in so many ways. This layout is about one of those instances.

hybrid | birthday box

 photo krpco_131025_lindaroos_birthdaybox.jpg

One of our special boys had a birthday recently and I made a small box to hold the gift certificate we got for him, along with some sweets. I like this kind of projects for times when the gift is a GC. Just handing over a tiny little credit card looking thing is super boring - even if the gift is appreciated. But this way, it's a bit more festive.

 photo itm_birthdaybox_3.jpg

I used the Clover box template by Kelleigh Ratzlaff, and papers and elements from the Dude Mini kit by Robyn Meierotto. Both are available at Pixels & Co.

I had to enlarge Kelleigh's box to be able to fit the card and sweets, but it was super easy to clip Robyn's papers to the template shapes, and to add the text and elements in PS and then print.

 photo itm_birthdaybox_1.jpg

I printed on both sides of my paper so that the insides would be as pretty before I cut, folded, and assembled.
 photo itm_birthdaybox_5.jpg

The boy was happy and I am very pleased with the results!

laying it out | good things

I used the journaling cards from It's a Man's World to create a layout centering around a photo of the husband. I think it came out quite beautifully. I love the black and white, the graphic patterns, and all the beautiful wordart.

I really like this photo of us from this summer where we are all sweaty and tired from a day's walking in the sunshine. It makes me feel good when I look at it.

project life | week of september 16

Here we are again, with a new week of Project Life. I had the worst week in many years last week. Very dark, and filled with many tears. I haven't been doing well for a while, being very stressed, and it finally took its toll on me. Things will have to change around here if I want a shot at feeling better.

The big thing, apart from all the dark and bad stuff, was that I finally got to start my new tattoo. I figured that earned a right to a full page. It also took a little edge off the woe is me on the left side.

 photo 15bhpl_lindaroos_130916_l_web.jpg

 photo 16bhpl_lindaroos_130916_r_web2.jpg
(Supplies: Becky Higgins Project Life Teen Girl, Becky Higgins Project Life Teen Boy, Becky Higgins Project Life Midnight, Butterfly kit  by Karla Dudley, Digi Basics Smears Neutrals by Mye De Leon, In Stitches-Neutral Basics by Robyn Meierotto)

I find that most Project Life products out there are featuring wordart and images that concerns happy times. This is all good and well, but let's be honest here - who has a perfectly happy life 100% of the time? I think most people go through days that are a little less shiny and bright. For me, it is important to be brutally honest. After all, it's my life and my project. I need to include even tough times. That means using "happy" products in such a way that it still works. This week, I found it tricky. I had to work on the left side page off and on for several hours before I felt I could let it be. The upside to all this is that I'm quite certain that I will get lots more practice.

So, part of the changes that I need to make is spending less time in front of the computer. I was told by my doctor to do things that make me happy, but right now I can stand about 15 minutes before my brain feels like it is going to explode. That means that I will be making less digital art, and will also likely have less to share here. So if I end up being a little quiet for a while, you know why.

laying it out | crazy folk

Yes, we are crazy. Yes, I love it. The husband and I? A good fit. He makes me laugh with his crazy antics. He makes me not care too much. He makes me a better person.

project life | week of september 9

Last week was a hard one for me. I put in overtime, spent three days away for work, and had multiple migraines. The weekend went by way too fast, and I generally felt like a zombie at the end of the week. Still, I made an effort to document it as best I could.

 photo 13bhpl_lindaroos_130909_1_web.jpg

(Supplies: Becky Higgins Project Life Heritage, Becky Higgins Project Life Midnight, Becky Higgins Project Life Seafoam, Life365 buttons by Karla Dudley, In Stitches Neutral Basics by Robyn Meierotto, Hombody by Shannon McNab)

On the right side page I documented a few things that I like at the moment; from little things like songs I sing along to, to my favourite series, to my husband's gift to me on my birthday. Of course he made it on the list as well! I thought it would be nice to look back on not only what I was doing each week this year, but also what I enjoyed.

project life | week of august 19

We had a very full week. It was our last week off work and I was determined to spend it the best way possible. I wish I could squish more photos in there because I just had so many! It has been a lovely week, with many good memories, and I am thankful for it.

 photo 7bhpl_lindaroos_130819_l_web.jpg

(Supplies: Becky Higgins Project Life Midnight, Becky Higgins Project Life Kraft, Becky Higgins Project Life Dear Lizzy Neapolitan, Becky Higgins Project Life Seafoam, Life 365 Buttons by Karla Dudley, Hello Summer by Mye De Leon, In Stitches Neutral Basics by RobynMeierotto)

I have decided to keep it very simple and minimalist. It takes long enough anyway to make the foundation of the layouts, choose pictures (and edit), read up on my notes from the week and write the journaling, choose papers and cards. I don't feel like I have the time to make the layouts super detailed and decorated. But hopefully it will mean that there is a cohesiveness to the album once it's finished even if I used different papers and cards throughout the year.

project life | enjoying holiday life

I had meant for this to post on Monday. For some reason it didn't, and I was off on a trip and had other things to concentrate on so I didn't even notice. Bah!

So, last week we had a nice quiet week and enjoyed being off work. We went on little road trips and lounged about at home with good food, and long nights on the patio.

 photo 3bhpl_lindaroos_130805_l_web.jpg

We also had a mini crayfish party with our family and it was a lovely, lovely summer night - the kind that you don't want to end.

I'm loving the project so far. I hope it will be as easy and enjoyable in October when weather is crap all I do is work, eat, and sleep.

laying it out | good things

Who could possibly say that these weren't good times?

A summer night by the sea, watching the kids jump from the little bridge, listening to the husband playing the guitar, enjoying the company of good friends, and watching the splendour of a sunset. It was a truly magical night.

My 39th birthday. Shopping, gifts, good food and drinks, loved ones, new clothes. It was the perfect way to spend a birthday, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Right now, I'm enjoying the wonders of summer holiday. It truly is refreshing to have these weeks off work when the weather is nice, and it's possible to relax, have barbecues, go on little road trips, have night swims at the beach, and generally just be. I love it! I hope you are all doing as well as I am!

project life | first week of the last year as a 30-something

And here I am; entering my last year as a 30-someting. I am a bit torn on the whole thing. I don't mind time moving on, but I admit to feeling a bit unsure about approaching 40. To me it feels like it brings with it a whole lot of expectation. To have arrived. To be where I'm supposed to be in life. To feel like I am secure in myself. I'm a not sure I am quite there yet, and it stresses me out a little. Granted, I get stressed out by a great deal of things.

But I am determined to make this last year of my 30s a great one with lots of good experiences and challenges. We have already started last year with the 40 before forty project,  of course and that will keep my plenty busy. But I have also decided to try and document my year in the shape of Project Life album. I spoke about this last week.

And so, my first two pages, of my first week as a 39 year old, get to start it off.

(Supplies: Becky Higgins Project Life Midnight, Becky Higgins Project Life Kraft, Becky Higgins Project Life Seafoam and also Crate Paper Maggie Holmes Kit, Life365 Buttons by Karla Dudley, In Stitches Neutrals by Robyn Meierotto, Homebody kit by Scotty Girl Design)

As you can see, and as I spoke about in my last post, I have decided to not follow the pocket system that Becky Higgins has formulated but rather try to stay true to my own style with layers and a few well chosen elements to help tell my story. I think that the Becky Higgins Project Life products that are available digitally at Digital Project Life are perfect even with my formula.

I am very happy with these first two pages. They let the photos take center stage, and there is ample space for journaling thanks to the journaling cards. I like the centered, layered look. Of course, I had lots to say seeing as we were on holiday this week and the photos are excellent seeing as they picture Italy, but I hope I can continue to keep this formula.

I haven't yet made a title page, but I am thinking that I might do a simple compilation of photos from the last year once it has passed. But we'll see. For now, I am just going to be happy that I created my first two pages.

laying it out | cropping

I am still playing along with the Cropped competition - not competing of course - and we're up to round 3 now. Things are heating up, I have to say. The mystery basket this week was a real challenge. Added on top of that was the conditions stipulated by the boss lady (the über fabulous Gennifer Bursett) that made things even a little trickier.

Here's what she said:

Round Three is Soup&Salad. Contrast can make the simplest things truly spectacular, so for this round, our contestants are encouraged to emphasize opposites, and consider showing contrast in scale, color scheme, topic, etc.

If you want to play along, you have a few more hours, and you can download the mystery basket here.

My layout is about the contrast of good days and really bad days due to my migraines.

laying it out | morphing

I participated in a digi morph challenge over at Pixels and Co. Ever heard of such a thing?
Well, it starts out with one inspirational layout. The layout is sent to the first participant, who creates a scraplift. That layout in turn is then sent to the second participant who does the same thing, and so on. Once the last participant has finished, all layouts are revealed and the morphing from the inspirational layout to the very last one is shown.

It was great fun (even though I had to send my work to the fabulous Karla Dudley - talk about nerve wracking). Here is my layout:

This is my layout for the second round of the Cropped competition at Pixels & Co. I'm not competing, but the members of the Creative Team are graciously allowed to play along with each challenge of the new rounds. In this round there were four new products that had to be included and the layout had to have 75% white space. Right up my alley! :)

As a follow up from last week, my new computer arrived and I am busy getting it set up like I want it, installing everything I had on my last one, and making sure I'm properly backed up. I'm also trying to get the hang of Windows 8, which I think lacks seriously in user friendliness.

laying it out | trio

My sisters are so precious to me. They are my babies, my confidantes, my loves. They are smart, and funny, and pretty. They are strong, and courageous, and amazing. I love them with all my heart. My life is better with them in it.

I started running last year. All through the summer and autumn I went running two or three times a week. I didn't exactly turn into a super sprinter, but I kept at it. Then winter hit, and it was just way too cold to run. Come warmer weather this year and I tried, twice, to pick back up. Thing is, I never got back into it. I didn't instantly succeed or become a master, and that made me feel miserable. It's a character flaw of mine; I put a lot of pressure on myself, and when I don't excel I feel horrible and quit. I need to stop that. That's what this layout is about.

This layout was created for the "Cropped" competition at Pixels and Co. Are you participating?
Since I'm part of the site CT, I am not eligible for the prizes, but it's fun to take on the challenge.

As you know the husband and I love food. As you know, I like to snap a few shots every now and then of that food. I think you also know that I like to scrap about it. So nothing new about this layout! We had grilled prawns one day, and it was quite Lovely. Messy, but lovely.

laying it out | trying to catch a break

Yes, I am literally trying to catch a break at this point in my life. Things are extremely hectic at work, and I find myself running faster and faster to keep up. I am afraid that I'm not doing a very good job of it.

I have quite a few things that I want to share here, but that means actually sitting down by the computer Before 10 pm, actually hooking up the camera to said computer, and actually editing the photos in said camera. But once I do all that, you can look forward to a couple of shots of the husband's mancave, a few photos of a Swedish holiday, and some weekly P52 shots.

For now though, I have a bunch of layouts to share. I am going to love you and leave you with these ones today. I think the pictures and the words will give you the story.
