is this the end of the In the Making blog?

Is this the end of the In the Making blog?
I think it is my friends.

I started this blog in December of 2007, and it's been a long ride. There have been ups, and there have been downs. Mostly there have been ups. Being creative, in whatever shape or form it might be - photography, paper crafts, party hosting, digi scrap or interior decorating, is incredibly important in my life. It is what relaxes me, what gets me excited, and what makes me feel like I am actually good at something in this world. Having had a place to share my joys has been so very gratifying and I am eternally grateful for all the love I have been shown throughout the years here on the blog.

But life doesn't always go as smoothly as planned. Sometimes life takes you on a crazy and exhausting ride. As you might know, I have been on such a ride for over a year now. I have been trying to get through a really tough time due to burnout, exhaustion, and depression, and it has forced me to change large parts of my life. Part of that was to go low tech and log off the computer, to allow myself to "just be" and not feel like I have to perform and excel in everything I do. I struggled with this for the longest time, but when my computer died in a couple of months ago I finally got that last push.

So, I have quit my creative team gigs and put all my online obligations on hold. With the downtime I have felt a lot less stressed and less inclined to create content for the blog. I feel like it's ok for me to be tired at the end of the day, it's ok for me to just be me with the people I love, to not constantly try to "make and share". And to tell the truth, I like it. I like the more relaxed approach to life that is starting to peek through that high wall of performance anxiety I have built up all my life.

And as a natural result of this, I have decided to put this blog to bed.
Will I return to blogging again? Perhaps I will, but then again, perhaps I won't. I don't know what the future will bring.

So thank you, and take care!
I know I will!

guest blogging at pixels & co

You guys, pop on over to the Pixels & Co blog today, where I am blogging about using journaling cards in "regular" scrapbook layouts. You know I love that topic, LOL! Anyway, I give a couple of ideas on how to use them, and also share some beautiful examples by the talented creative team members at Pixels & Co.

Trying to be geeky

In an effort to be a little more with the times, a little more hip, and hopefully able to play with the cool kids, I recently made a few additions to my blog and my online precense.

First, bloggy stuff; if you are interested in following this blog via email I have made it super easy for you. Just click the second email icon over in the sidebar (the one with the dark square). If you, on the other hand, want to follow via a reader then click the RSS icon right beside the email one. Easy peasy, right?

As you can see, you can also check me out at a various other places! Not only do I have a Facebook page (which I am sure you guys know about by now - and if you don't head on over and like the page, there is a little something for you to say thank you), but I also collect inspiration over at Pinterest (lots of food and graphic design pics pinned at the moment). As of this week I am now also on Twitter. If you have an account, come on over and follow me!

I am working on putting together a small newsletter and hope to have that finished real soon!

I tell you, all this geeky tech stuff, it's not second nature to me. I am cleary the right brain type of gal, LOL! But onwards and upwards right? 2012 will definitely be the year for me to get all this stuff right!

just a little note

I know I have been MIA for a while here. I never meant to leave y'all hanging. I just hit a huge mother of a wall and had to remove myself from a number of stress factors in my life. If I am sparse here for a week or so, I ask for your understanding, and for cutting me some slack. I just need to rest up for a bit.

Lots of love to you all!

TOU updated

I just remembered that I hadn't ever gotten around to updating the TOU page with the actual TOU. So now it's done. If in doubt, go HERE.

Bloggy newness

This week I did something I have been thinking about for ages and ages; I bought myself a domain for this blog. The actual process of buying the domain was simple as ever. Getting my new account up and running smoothly was a bit of a pain really. But being the super awesome tech savvy genius with endless amounts of patience that I am (note: this is very far from the truth), I finally figured it out. Now that it's done I don't understand why I put it off for so long. Procrastinator defined here!

inthemakingdesign.com - a new adress

Yes it's true folks! inthemakingdesign.com is the new adress for this little corner of the interwebs!

I am happy and excited and proud that I finally got off my behonkey and got to it. I've been meaning to do this for ... um years. LOL!

Please update your readers and favourites so that you don't miss anything! Blogger is supposed to send you to the new adress, should you use the old blogspot.com one, but so far they've been a little lax about it.

If you want to contact me just click here. I have also updated the contact info over on the right so that you will be able to reach me whenever you need to (just click the @ icon).

If you are having trouble seeing anything just give me a shout!

Welcome!

What am I doing wrong?

Blogger bloggers (ha!), help a girl out here, please! Why aren't the share buttons showing up after my post even though I have that box ticked? Is there some secret trick I need to learn to get them there? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Love.

Winter cleaning at the blog

I grew tired of the blue a little while ago and have thought about changing up the blog for a while now. So while I'm testing some things out and updating as I go, please have some patience with me. Thanks a bunch!

Words of wisdom from P-Dub

Pioneer Woman is da bomb. She really is. And this post is something I want to remember, for my own good. I thought sharing it here, for those of you who by any chance don't read her blog (yet), would be a good idea.

Random postage

I came here for a random post but discovered that this is the 400th post on the blog! Wowie! I have come to 400? That is pretty amazing! I promise, there will be a celebration very soon! Hee!

alright, enough with the exclamation marks, Linda

Anyway I came to tell you that there will be a little sumpin sumpin from me on One Buck Wednesday at JessicaSprague.com tomorrow. So you will want to check that out first thing! :D

In other words, I am working on a christening invite. Well, it was designed before we went on holiday in July but the details weren't quite set, which meant I couldn't start printing back then. But that will happen tomorrow. I hope to be able to share here very soon. I love the design. Modern and cute all at the same time.

I will see you tomorrow again with some info on OBW!

Profile changes

OK, so my neighbour commented on my profile the other day. He didn't think it was a good idea to say that I was a junkie, even if it was in regards to creating. So Rolf, my dear neighbour, I changed it up for you! LOL!

Galna Kocken is blogging!

My husband, the chef, has started a new blog. Long time coming! We talked about this last year and had this idea that he would cook and I would shoot and then he would blog about it. Well, that kind of fell through but now he finally decided to go for it.

He will take photos of his food and then every now and then talk about food and drinks, and perhaps kitchen gadgets. He is planning to blog in Swedish but anyone can check out the pics and be inspired.

He calls himself Galna Kocken - the Crazy Chef. Check him out!

Blog banner in serious depression

I think I need a new blog banner. I never even bothered to make it bigger when I changed the blog format some months back. I know. Pathetic. I seriously need to get on that. Maybe I should spruce up the rest while I'm at it?

Speaking of birthdays

The fabulous diva that is Jen at Hostess with the mostess featured my birthday party on her blog yesterday. It is my second feature at her blog and I am as extatic this time as the first. Jen has impeccable taste and to even be considered is a great honour for me. You can see the specific post with just one click!

Tuesday, 9 June 2009

I promised myself to never get to the point where I was stressed out about not updating this lil ol blog of mine. Still, here I am, feeling guilty for not posting about everything that has been going on lately. I owe several weeks of Project 52 photos, I have a bunch of handmade cards to show, and some other stuff. I also wanted to talk about the daily challenges that I co host at the Jessica Sprague forum. Hey, if you are a scrapper, and you still haven't joined, there is still plenty of time. Each day for the month of June a new challenge is posted so head on over and check it out.

Now, the reason why I've been so bad at posting? Well, I work a lot. My real life job is really intense at the moment and it needs a lot of energy from me. Also, with work for birthdays, confirmations, graduations, and a few photo books I have been asked to do, my nights and weekends have been pretty full. There has also been an unusual amount of health issues lately. As you might remember I suffer from migraines and for about a month or two I have had more attacks than usual. But enough about that. I'd rather not talk, let alone think, about it.

So now you know. Although I am not making excuses I thought I owed those of you who have so kindly asked if I am ok to explain the situation. Hopefully I will be back into full swing of things really soon.

Much love to you all!

Update on the banner issue

Thank you so much everyone for your feedback on the banner. I too felt it was too dark, and that is why I wasn't sure I liked it.

I went back to blue - one can always trust blue - but decided to give the fireworks a try for a while to see if they grow on me.

Again, thank you all for the honest feedback. And thanks for your comments on your view of my style. Being light is something I strive for, in more ways than one, lol. :D

New banner

Trying out something new for the banner. Not sure I like it at all. Will have to think about it for a day or two. Tell me if you hate it!

You asked for it!

And now you're getting the answers! :D

Mirjam asked:
What is my favourite film and book? And will I be sharing more digital papers?

My answer:
I am such a film buff. I love watching films and always have new favourites. Narrowing it down to one is downright impossible for me. But I do love The Commitments, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Mystic River. Also, anything where Hugh Jackman takes his clothes off will get a good rating from me, lol.

I have two favourite books. The first one is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and the second one is Macbeth by William Shakespeare. There was one book I read while at university that scared the crap out of me but I still loved it. It is called The Collector but I can't remember who wrote it, sorry.

I will be sharing more papers and templates here for sure. I am working on a paper kit but have a couple other engagements that I need to finish first (deadlines) so it might be a little while. I hope y'all are ok with waiting.

Nina asked:
What is my favourite picture? And what language is ok to post replies in?

My answer:
You can write to me in Swedish, English, a little Italian or German. :)

My favourite picture changes from time to time too. Right now it's one from our trip to Italy in August. It's the one in this layout.
Photobucket

Tammy asked:
What is my real job? And have I considered starting my own design or event planning business?

My answer:
I work for a utility company as a coordinator. Basically my job is to provide instructions and information for the people working in my and four other departments, and to see to it that they work accordingly to the company processes and execute things in the correct way. I organize classes and write instructions that I publish at our intranet. I work a lot and there is always so much more to do.

I have considered doing something related to both design and event planning. I had this idea of buying a villa in Toscana and provide an all in one service for Swedish couples who want a destination wedding with invites, planning, catering, and photography. Buuuuuut, that's just a dream. And the reality is, being new home owners we need two secure incomes right now. So starting a business of my own will have to stay a dream.

Anke asked:
Where was I born and how did I end up where I am?

My answer:
I was born in a town called Malmö in Sweden in 1974. I have lived there all my life and still do! :) I want to thank you for your comment on my English. I am fluent in English so I get asked frequently if I am from some place else. But no. There is a really long story but let's just take the short one here for now and suffice it to say that I like the language.

Lisa asked:
What was a decisive moment in my life and what changed because of it?

My answer:
Oh gosh, I think you get the prize for the most difficult question, lol. I think one decisive moment was my 20th birthday which involved a broken heart and a major life crisis. It was the moment I grew up and lost my naive outlook on my life. It was a horrible, horrible time but looking back now I know it is such a big part of who I am today that I wouldn't want to change anything.

Another one, of course, was marrying my husband and feeling more secure and at peace than I had ever felt before in my life.

Frida asked:
What is my favourite song from the 80s and 90s? What was my most fab 80s outfit? And who is the most inspiring celeb I know?

My answer:
Hahahaha, well seeing as Rick Astley was the greatest love of my life when I was 15 years old I guess I have to say Never Gonna Give You Up for the 80s song.

90s song? Hm ... I was very into RnB in the 90s ... I'll go with ... heck I don't know!

I don't know that it was even possible to have a fab outfit in the 80s. I do remember a white tunic with big orange dots, an orange plastic belt and white ski pants. Yeah, gag me!

The most inspiring celeb? I have to say Oprah. I don't know anyone who works so hard to better herself and the world. I know she has made mistakes, but she tries. I admire that.

Tammy (again) asked:
What is my take on scrap ettiquette? And where do I find inspiration?

My answer:
Well, yeah, I very much believe in giving credit. I know some people don't care for it but it's not fun to see people use your stuff and not even recognising your work. I saw a direct copy (it can't even be called scraplift because the girl had even gone and taken a photo like mine) of a layout of mine that was published in DSM and there was no credit to my original layout. There were a lot of comments to her post, raving about how great it was, and it just hurt me. Because it was my design. It was my ideas. And she took the praise. So I always make sure I give proper credit. Always. And I wish others would too.

I find inspiration in everything and anything. It can be a photo, a colour, a word in the news paper, an ad out on the town, a conversation overheard on the bus, a dream, other people's layouts, textures, food, music. Anything really. Sometimes I feel really blocked and so I am working hard on breaking out of the box and thinking creatively and like an artist. That is a really big challenge though, I think.

Whew, all talked out now! I'll be back tomorrow with some layouts.

You call the shots

So I thought I'd try something entirely new for this blog. I thought I'd leave it up to you to decide what to talk about. Fancy that!

Here's how it's going to work:
You reply to this post asking any type of question you like. That could be anything from what my favourite colour is, to what my take on scrap ettiquette is, to how old I am, to my political views, to anything related to entertaining, to whatever!

Then, sometime in the near-ish future I will make a new post where I answer your questions. I will then go above and beyond and be elaborate and might even use pictures. :)

OK, so ready set go. Hit me!
