laying it out | not ready

Autumn is definitely here. I'm not ready. Not at all. The past two weeks have been pretty good considering, with sun and warm weather, but yesterday was the definite turn. I'm pretty sure we will be seeing the typical south Sweden autumn days with rain coming sideways, wind that goes straight through you, and bone chilling damp. So no, I'm not ready one little bit. I had to make a layout about it.

laying it out | daily routine

My days have not been the most eventful this past year. Being ill has forced me to find new routines. Now that I am working more again, there are a few of those new routines that I want to hold on to, that have helped me feel better. I want to keep my own health and well being at the top of my list. I might now feel up to all of them everyday, but I want to keep the ambition and the drive.

The list includes:
breathing (not just simply breathing but breathing right)
enjoying the little things
think positively
see beauty where I look
eat well
get fresh air
listen to music
do relaxation
tell someone I love them
tell myself I love me

laying it out | streets of barcelona

I have been on holiday for a couple of weeks, and last week we took a short trip to Barcelona for a couple of days.

Going to Barcelona in August is apparently a very good idea if you want to be trapped with thousands upon thousands of tourists at every major landmark/sight, metro, and larger streets. If you don't, going in August is apparently a bad idea. Well, even though I was contributing to the problem, I really did not like all that people swarming everywhere. It spoiled many parts of the trip for me as I felt stressed, irritated, and frustrated when it was so cramped.

Also, going in August is apparently not a great idea if you want to keep up with your foodie status and eat at really good places that the locals go to. Apparently many of them close for holiday the whole month. So that was a good deal of my research and food blog sourcing out the window.

We did manage to find places to go and see that were away from the crowds, and we did find good eats. I am planning on doing a separate post on our trip, with photographic evidence, but I haven't had time to edit them all just yet.

So in the meantime here is a layout that I created for the 3-way challenge this week at Pixels & Company. The photos are somall, but if you squint real hard, you will see some of the stuff we found to be really nice.

laying it out | all new

Happy Friday!
I wanted to share two brand new layouts I just created!

On my birthday last week we spent the day in Copenhagen together, and got this selfie while we were resting tired feet in a bar. I am so in love with it. I love his hand on my hair, his face touching my head, the tenderness that the photo conveys. I had to scrap it, really.

The husband also took the big one in this layout, and I love it equally much.

project life | project life phone app beta test

 photo pl_lindaroos_summernights.jpg

I was fortunate enough to be asked to try out the Project Life app that is coming real soon from Becky Higgins! And wow, is this app going to revolutionize documenting life! If you do Project Life digitally, and you do the Project Life format (i.e. you are not as difficult as I am) then you will love how quick and easy this app is making it for you.

Here are a few examples that I created on my phone. The all literally took five minutes to whip up! It's simply a matter of popping in the photos and cards, adding your text, and you're done. Fabulous!

 photo pl_lindaroos_loveblue.jpg

 photo pl_lindaroos_happybirthday.jpg

I am sure you have lots of questions! I don't have a lot of answers for you at this moment, other than to say that the app is brilliant, but Becky Higgins did adress it with a Q&A post on her blog last week.

project life | full circle - weeks of July 21 and July 28

A year ago I started a project that I knew would be a tough job to follow through. I still wanted to give it a go. I wanted to document my last year as a 30-something. I started doing Project Life. What I didn't know then was that just about a month in, my whole world as I knew it would change and I would be faced with enormous struggles with my mental and physical health.

It's been a hard, hard year for me, this past year. There have been moments where I thought things just could not get any worse. There have been moments where I didn't even have the strength to lift my head from my pillow. There have been moments where all I did was cry. Later there were moments where I worked hard on facing my inner demons and owning up to what I have done to myself for most of my life, and where I tried to find new ways of thinking and doing things.

Through all this, I kept on working on my Project Life pages every week (well, almost). Some weeks I wanted to throw the computer out the window and some weeks it was a welcome break for a stressed out brain. Throughout the year doing Project Life helped me be consistent with taking photos and writing down details of my life, however sad or uneventful it may have seemed at first glance.

A few weeks ago, I looked through all my pages and it struck me that in the midst of all the darkness and hardships, there were indeed little glimpses of light and joy as well. Some weeks they were tiny and some weeks they were monumental. But they were there if I only looked hard enough to see them. That realisation was so very important to me and my continued road to being a better, healthier, and happier me.

As I hit save on my last latest page, thus concluding a full year of Project Life and my first PL album, I cried. This project has been a crutch for me this past year. I was filled with so much emotion as I put together the spreads for the last two weeks of July. I have so much respect for how much it has given me to do this. I am also immensly proud of the effort that I have put in; the many hours that I have spent working on my pages and creative work that has gone in to the project.

So with these words, I am moved and proud when I say that here are the last two spreads of my first Project Life album:

(Supplies: Becky Higgins Project Life Odds & Ends, Becky Higgins Project Life Amy Tangerine Plus One, Becky Higgins Project Life Midnight,  In Stitches Neutral Basics by Robyn Meierotto, Homebody by Shannon McNab, Life 365 The Buttons by Karla Dudley)

Naturally, I had to create an album cover and a title page for the album.
I chose to step away from the templates that I have used in the book, but tried to keep them both consistent with the rest.

The cover:
 photo 0bhpl_lindaroos_1314_title_web.jpg

The title page:
 photo 109_bhpl_lindaroos_frontpage_web.jpg

Now, this is not the end of Project Life for me. I have decided to keep on going. From next week until the end of the year I will keep doing Project Life in the format that I have been doing so far. Once the year is up, I will put those last four months in an album on its own. What format I will be using next year is yet to be decided. I figure I've got time to worry abou that later.

So, until next week, this is me signing off the Project Life duty! See ya!

laying it out | in summer mode

I'm in full summer mode at the moment. Of course, as I am typing this the rain is pouring down outside. Now that is typically Swedish summer for you! But we have had some great days lately and I am looking forward to more. This has found me in the mood to scrap all summer layouts!

So for as long as I can remember I have hated the beach and the water.
One, I am very afraid of water (which is due to an incident when I was a kid) and will only swim if I know I can put my feet down and touch the ground. I will never, ever put my head under water.
Two, I get sunburned very easily, and also got melanoma 10 years ago, so I don't want to be half naked in the sun.
Three, I have hated the way my body looks since I was in my early teens, so I don't want to be half naked period.
This means I very rarely join in the fun when swimming is on the agenda.

I have been contemplating the situation for a while and have decided that I need to change this. I don't want to miss out because I have issues with cellulite and saddle bags. I don't want to feel bad about myself. I don't want to put focus on the less than stellar parts of my body. I don't want the kids around me to remember me as the bore who never played along, and I certainly don't want to set a bad example regarding body image. So I made this layout. And I bought myself a bikini and hit the pool.

And even though there are no pictures of me in the pool, let's not go too far right away, this happened that night. The boys are such water animals, and they spent most of the afternoon and night splashing around.

I recently became lactose intolerant, which means that it's hard for me to find good ice cream out and about. This is a bit of a sad thing for me as I absolutely love ice cream. Especially the soft and fluffy kind you get in Italy. We did get an ice cream maker so that I can make my own, so I think I'm going to live. This photo is about a moment in the summer of 2013 when we visited with my sister and her boyfriend in Milano.

I have never been good at lounging around, doing nothing. It literally crawls under my skin when I have nothing to do, even if it's just perusing Pinterest. But it's a thing that I need to work on, and what better way than working on it on a sunny day under an unbrella in the garden?

laying it out | a little bit of this ...

I always participate in the Digimorph games at Pixels and Company. In June we kicked off another one. Never took part? Check out the forums for the reveal post to see some really beautiful work. The game goes like this: One layout is chosen from the gallery by our fearless leader Kat. The layout is sent to two people taking part. They scraplift and then send it on. And so it goes until everyone signed up have created a layout on their own. It's like that whispers game we played as kids, you know?

Anyway, this time I was first up to create a layout and this was the result:

Summer has been giving us both good and bad weather so far. We are still working for a couple of weeks before it's time for summer holiday, but we are doing our best to enjoy the days. Nothing so far has compared to this one night about a year ago though. I had to remember and indulge for a while, and created this layout:
 photo cspco_140625_lindaroos_summer.jpg
(Supplies: Summerific Elements, Summerific Papers by Creashens, A Story Captured Vol 7 by Anita Designs)

My little nephew spent a day with me last week, and we spent a good deal of it pretending we were pirates on a big ship, at the local playground. It was nothing short of blissful. Naturally, he was the captain who kept losing his coconuts and fishing rods. Naturally I was the deck hand who had to climb up and down getting them. LOL! But what I wouldn't do for him!

laying it out | art journaling, kind of

A few weeks back we had a conversation on the P&Co forum about scrapping who you are, and not only what happens to you in life. I have been thinking about it for a while, and to hear other scrappers' points of views and feelings was valuable to me.

I haven't really felt that art journaling was something for me. Mostly because I couldn't identify with the style that most art journalers keep to. The drawn girls and the bright colours just aren't my style. But as it was pointed out, art journaling doesn't have to be just that. it can be whatever you want; the point is to journal your thoughts and feelings.

So I am giving it a try. So far I have made two layouts.
I am sharing them here today with much humility. Both because the topics are very sensitive and humbling and because it's a style that I don't feel completely confident with.

Do you scrap who you are? How do you go about it?

project life | mid summer weeks

I know, friends, I have been gone for too long! I needed the break to be honest. It's been a tough couple of weeks around these parts so I have tried to minimize my online time.

I do have layouts to share, and also photos from a couple of photo walks around my hometown. But for today, I am sharing my Project Life pages from the past two weeks. Lots of colour in these layouts! I think that goes with the season; with blue skies, lots of flowers, veggies and berries. We don't have those kinds of colour during winter in Scandinavia!

project life | last two weeks of may + digi how to | tracking supplies

I really like these two weeks' pages. Mostly because I had two quite good weeks. I had more moments of feeling good than what has been usual for me in the past year. I also like that I managed to get some really colourful photos. Thanking the weather for that, LOL!

I had a question on how I keep track of what supplies I use. I learned this trick early on in my scrapbooking, and have stuck to it. I know that there are actions and plug ins that can help do the work for you, but I haven't looked into it mostly because this works for me. I don't claim to have the best and most effective way of keeping track, but yes, it works well for me.

I don't use an organising tool; I just keep my supplies in a folder for each kit. When I use something from one kit I copy the name of the kit and paste it into the file of the page. This is how I do it.

1. In Explorer, right click on the kit folder. Choose Change Name. Copy the name (Ctrl+C).
2. Go to Photoshop where the page you are working on is open, choose File and File Info (Alt+Shift+Ctrl+I).
3. Paste the file name in the description area. Click OK.

 photo ITM_screenshot_fileinfo_1.jpg

Once the file has been saved, you can see what you  have written in the File Info by, in Explorer, right clicking on the file, choosing Properties, and then going to the third tab called Information. It is possible to click and copy the text so that you can paste it anywhere you want to.

So that's it. Pretty simple, isn't it?

laying it out | on happiness

I took the photo in this layout with a timer app on the phone the other week when we were in Gothenburg (I am totally planning on doing a seperate post on that, hopefully next week). The husband was laughing at me when I was trying to position the phone just right against a glass and then run across the room to sit down. But hey, there was nobody there to take the shot for me. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

The photos in this layout are old, from 2011 or 2012 I think, but I was reflecting on being carefree when I saw Anita Design's kit with the same name and I remembered the feeling I had on the day these were taken. I know I am on my way back to that place. I can't wait!

I have had a couple of follow up questions on the digi how to post that I made the other day. I will come back to them next week! For now, I need to gear up for the Champions League final tonight!

project life | first half of may

Oh boy, it's been a while hasn't it? I have been giving myself time off the computer to get the brain in as good a condition as possible as I take another step in my recovery; going back to work part time. So with this, I also fell behind one week on my Project Life. But with promising myself to stay on top of it, I spent some time last night making my spreads for the past two weeks.

I like how these pages are working together. I wanted the photos to really stand out in these pages because I think I've had some really lovely moments lately, and I think the toned down colour scheme enhances them.

I just want to touch on again how thankful I am that I decided to start Project Life back in August of last year. I thought I would never be able to fill two pages every week. I thought I would never have enough content, and that I would never be able to keep it up. Oh, how wrong I was! Even with being sick for almost all of the past 9 months, I think I have a lovely album going. I am so happy about that!

hybrid hotness | wedding greeting card

 photo ITM_congratswedding_5.jpg

My sister has a friend who is getting married and she asked me if I could help her out with a greeting card to go with the gift.

I decided to go hybrid and use the beautiful papers from the Simply Adore You kit by Gennifer Bursett and Jennifer Labre.

 photo ITM_congratswedding_4.jpg

I printed on Epson Matte Presentation Paper, as usual and cut the pieces with an exacto knife. I added a doily, a ribbon, and two glittery hearts from a local craft store.

I think doing hybrid cards is a perfect solution! You have 100% control of the patterns and colours that go on the card, and you don't have to rely on what you can find in a brick and mortar shop. And if you have a cutting machine like Silhouette then I'd say there are practically no limits to what you can do!

I feel this card came out both sweet and modern at the same time! I hope it will be appreciated by the newlyweds!

laying it out | insd celebration challenges

You guys, you have to come over and play along in the games and challenges in the forum at Pixels and Co.

I have taken two so far, and I kind of love the results!
The first challenge I took was the "What colour are you?" challenge hosted by Janell Nugent. By answering a few questions on an online questionare, you get a colour and the challenge is to scrap a page using just that colour. I got aqua!

The second challenge I took was the "Challenge me this" challenge hosted by Gennifer Bursett. The person who posts after you in the thread gets to give you the challenge. I was challenged by Maribel to scrap a layout with a bold pattern background.

laying it out | all new and a P&Co; collab freebie

I have a couple of layouts to share with you that I created with all new products from Pixels & Co.

You should really take the chance to pick up a huge collab kit by the P&Co designers through their iNSD blog hop; Bermuda Triangle!

There are so many more fun things going on this weekend, starting today, at Pixels and Co including sales, dream cart contest, speed scraps, forum games and contests and another blog hop this Saturday. Come over and hang out!

This first layout, where I dream about going back to Italy, is created with all Bermuda Triangle stuff! See, I've been to Bermuda so Italy had to make do. Not such a bad thing at all, really.

This layout, where I love on the beautiful weather we've had lately and all the great things I've done because of it, is made with new products by Deena Rutter and Tiffany Tillman.
