going graphic | laundry room artwork

 photo ITM_laundrydecor_7.jpg

So the person who made the plans for our house probably had a shiny diploma hanging in her/his office. Unfortunately that diploma was no guarantee for plain old common sense. There is an array of strange things in our house - mostly sockets in very odd places - and this one really takes the price. The electrical box in the laundry room is placed right smack in the middle of the only wall that is not covered with cabinets. It's ugly and impractical and it has been bugging me since we moved in. So that was in 2006. I don't always move quickly. Ha!

I painted the wall last summer when I grew tired of all the white in the room, and I really liked the dark grey but the white door for the electrical box was sticking out like a sore thumb. So I created three pieces of artwork and framed them in white Ribba frames from IKEA.

I might not love it but I think it's at least better than before. I printed the artwork myself on Epson Matte Presentation Paper so if and when I want to change it out it won't be all that much of a heartache. So now the next thing on my list for that room is to change out the hideous light fixtures. I am thinking old industrial looking lamps.

going graphic | inspirational quote cards set two

 photo ITM_quotecard2_1.jpg

I finally got my second set of inspirational quote cards printed. I am now ready to put them up on my little wall beside my desk at work. I don't spend much time there at the moment, but it will be a nice thing to come back to when I do start working again.

This set featured a few longer quotes, and it took me a whole to get them to look right. I chose to go with the same cards from Becky Higgins Project Life Midnight Kit as my base, and stuck with basically the same fonts. I like the consistency of the look when all the cards are together.

going graphic | inspirational quote cards set one

 photo ITM_quotecard_1jp.jpg

I have collected a bunch of inspirational quotes for a while that I keep on lovely hot pink post it notes on a wall beside my desk at work. Coming back to work after a long time recently, made me realize that the lovely hot pink post its weren't so very lovely at all. As can be seen in this phone camera snapshot. Awful, isn't it?

So what to do, what to do? Design some better looking ones of course!

So I used a few cards from the Becky Higgins project Life Midnight Collection to create clean, graphic quote cards that will please my eye much more in the future.

I love doing graphic work. It's like solving a puzzle, trying to work different fonts together with the wording. I spent a few hours fiddling with these, and I am so pleased with the results.

I have one more set done as well, but naturally I ran out of Epson Presentation Paper, and will have to come back to those in a couple of days.

shabby chic 40th birthday invitation

A friend of mine is turning 40 next month and she asked me to create the invitations to her birthday party. She was very specific about two things; she wanted pink, and she wanted shabby chic.

With an all script font, a rose pattern background, and some pink dotted flags to set it off, I think it met her description pretty well. To finish it off, I added an intricate doily and a satin ribbon for the guests to slip off and reveal the card. I backed the card with a pink paper in the same texture as the front so the card was really thick and lovely. The card was sent in a pink envelope, of course.

And yes, my birthday is at the very beginning of August. And yes, my name is Linda. But no, I don't turn 40 this year. I really do have a friend with the same name as mine, and with a birthday very close to mine. She is just a year older! LOL!

invitation | autumn birthday

It's nearing the time for the husband's birthday again and as usual he wanted to arrange a small (ha) dinner party for parents and siblings. We have a cool theme planned, and of course I had to do an invitation to suit.

Despite the fact that I got the date wrong, which is something we didn't even notice until one of the guests asked if we really wanted them to come on a Sunday, I think I really love this invitation. It's fun, it's full of beautiful typography, and it has the very trendy chalkboard look. It's defenitely one of my favourites.

corporate design | royal underwear

I was asked to design a flyer for a lingerie shop that is opening today in a shopping center in my city. They wanted a sophisticated and classic feel with a fun and modern touch.

I present you with the finished product:

I like the elegant combination of blue and grey, and I like the retro modern style with a variation of typefaces.

If you are local, do stop by Royal Underwear and take an advantage of their opening offer!

paper design | latest work sneak

So I have been hinting that I'm crazy busy with wedding prep. I have the honour of helping out with two weddings this summer. The first one is just a week and a half away, and I am super excited because we've worked in lots of beautiful details. I cannot wait to share them all with you!

The other wedding is in August. So far I have only finished the invites out of the stuff I am involved in, but I plan to get busy on the rest as soon as we enter July.

I thought I'd share just a little sneak of the invites for the second wedding. The couple asked for a traditional style, luxurious paper, red, and roses.

The back paper is a deep shimmery red, and the white is thick with a beautiful deep texture. Luscious!

typography | inspirational prints

One of the things I noticed when looking at the pictures from last week's Week in the life project was that my office at work is very bare. I do have a few small postcards, but they are on the opposite side of the room and I have my back to them most of the time. The two walls that I see the most when sitting there are empty and very white.

So I decided to do something about it. Since I have a large format printer it would be very easy for me to cook something up and print out at home. Frameless prints would also be easy to put up, and take down, without doing anything to the walls.

So with that said, I created two very simple, but for me effective in message, prints. I will be very happy to put them up.
